US AMBASSADOR ON SANCTIONS AGAINST MOHAMEDS, MAE THOMAS

United States Ambassador to Guyana, Nicole Theriot on Friday spoke about the corruption probe into Guyanese businessman, Nazar ‘Shell’ Mohamed and his son, Azruddin alongside government official, Mae Thomas. According to Theriot, the US investigation- one that was kept under wraps to prevent any intelligence from becoming compromised- was done over a two-and-a-half-year period. And she said these sanctions are the most serious set of penalties that can be handed down following the probe. With the sanctions in place and the Government of Guyana keen on probing the corruption allegations itself, Theriot has recommended that the US Department of the Treasury share as much of the information it can. The Ambassador spoke to reporters on the sidelines of event on Friday.
