Wondering how you can use the Apex Preamp? In this video, Misha walks you through a few of our favorite ways to use the Apex Preamp.

Hi guys Misha Aprils here to tell you all about the different ways that you can use your Apex Preamp, it's the fastest safest easiest way to get great modern metal tones at the flip of a switch.

You can use the apex straight into a clean amp. Take your guitar output cable and plug it into the in Apex, now plug another cable into the output of the Apex and plug the other end of that same cable into the input of your amp. Now plug your power supply into the apex, turn your amp on then engage the apex. Remember, turn off the integrated cabinet simulator when using it with a real amp. For best results I recommend leaving everything just about flat and playing around with that gain knob.

If you're using the Apex as a gain stack on an already dirty amp I recommend once again leaving everything kind of flat, playing with the gain to taste and then on the amp use a little bit less gain than you'd normally use. Add the tight switch and now your cooking.

If you're using the Apex with other pedals, like the precision drive for example, I recommend using conservative settings on those drives since the Apex is already very tight. If you're using effects like reverb send delays they generally sound better after the Apex

You can use the Apex preamp direct into your favorite interface for easy simple safe home recording. Take the output cable from your Apex and plug it into one of your interfaces inputs. Now, turn on your interface and engage the Apex. Check your input line level first on your interface. Red is bad, green is good. Make sure you turn the cab sim on for best results.

Wow it's that easy to get great modern metal tone with the Apex. You can also sweep the virtual microphone across the cabinet simulation using the cab sim knob, hit that tight switch for some extra punch and clarity.

But wait there's more! You can use your Apex Preamp to go straight to front of house with your existing pedal board for easy simple safe live tone. Take your Apex Preamp output cable and give it to the sound guy, he will then plug it into that mysterious device known as the mixing board. For best results use similar settings to what you'd use when plugging into a clean channel, but don't forget to engage that cabinet simulator! Other brands would charge you over $500 for the features found in the Apex Preamp, but if you act now you'll get the apex for a low, low price.

This looks interesting... Horizon sent me an email with these videos because I bought the Precision Drive off their website. I'm glad they made a little instruction demo too, so I know it can work with my amp, through the front input. I just upgraded from practice and combo amps to a head/cab- Hughes & Kettner Grand Meister Deluxe 40.
I've been able to use the Horizon Precision drive to color distortion with no issues, so maybe I should/will go with a Horizon preamp too. (the Precision was around $299, I believe?) I'll wait since they won't ship (or charge my debit card until it ships, I assume) until Dec/Jan.
I have an ISP Theta distortion preamp already but I'm only now starting to use it with the new amp since I finally just figured out the right way to connect it in the chain. I'll use the time to see how much I like the Theta before deciding.

hey Misha, why not showing how the Apex sounds through the effect loops of the amp?I would think that this would be the main way to use it no ?

How does it sound straight into the interface, cab sim off, then using IR’s?
