Just learn 2n² rule
1st Shell - 2 Electrons (2 * 1²)
2nd Shell - 8 Electrons (2 * 2²)
3rd Shell - 18 Electrons (2 * 3²)
4th Shell - 32 Electrons (2 * 4²)
5th Shell - 50 Electrons (2 * 5²)
And So On

sorry just a question, i thought the third shell could hold a maximum of 18 electrons and you said 8 electrons at 2:51 . are there certain times where the third shell can only hold a max of 8?

We can use 2n² rule also known as Bohr-Bury Scheme to determine the maximum number of electrons that can accommodate in each shell [n being the number of shell]
