Once you got your Eurail Pass, the next thing to consider is if you need reservations for any of your trains. To check that, you can go on the Eurail website or their Rail Planner App to see the train schedule. For instance if you’re looking for a train from Rome to Florence, it’ll tell you right away i you need a reservation of not. If you do need one, you’ll have to pay extra for it. I paid roughly 10 euros for that trip. But you can also avoid taking trains with reservations by clicking on the avoid reservations button.

It’s suggested to make reservations especially during high season to make sure you get a seat so here are several ways of doing it. First one is through the Eurail site but they do charge you a booking fee on top of the reservation fee. There’s also by phone where they’ll mail you your tickets or through e-tickets where you can print them off yourself. However, I prefer buying it at the train station because it gives you the flexibility to decide on the train to take on fly. Either way, all these options are good and easy to use.

Hope you found these videos helpful and feel free to check out my other Eurail videos!

Can you demonstrate at a train station kiosk how one reserves just the seat for a train segment without buying a ticket? Since the Eurail site and most national rail sites will charge a surcharge beyond the reservation fee, I choose to purchase mine in person at the kiosks. The lines at the ticket window are too long.

If you don’t reserve a seat and they have filled up are you still able to get on the train and just not have a seat?, or is it that you can’t get on it. Also, where/ how/ when do you make the reservations? Thanks

Did you ever encounter any problems with booking your reservation at the station before getting on the train, especially if you were travelling during July/August? I'm planning on going interrailling for a month in late July this year, but I don't want to have my itinerary completely planned out, I want to be able to change it easily, but I also don't want to find that I can't get a train and end up stuck in a foreign country, thank you :)

A couple questions, if I am going to be in Europe for a full month, would buying the full month long Eurail Global Pass be the way to go? On the website it asks for different dates and I wasn't sure if it is asking how many days I will be traveling in general or how many days I would have to use the pass.

My other question was about reservations. So if I were to take a train from France to Italy, do I need to make a reservation? I am looking on the website and it says that reservations costs. Or can I still take a train to another country without having to pay the overnight fee?

If I am going to be in Europe for a month, but I do not have a specific number of countries picked out yet, what would be the best amount of travel days I should put down? 22 or 1 month?

Hi! Did you have any trouble when you did your reservations one day before departure? I was wondering about international trains in Spain, France or Italy for example. Also, is it common for trains to be full in those countries? I'm aware of the fact that we must pay a reservation fee, but I'm concerned about doing so in the ticket stand at the station. Paying through the eurail online service sounds like a scam. They add 8 euros to the reservation fee! I hope you can help me! :D

Hi I realise this is very old video and you may not remember some of this info but hopefully you see my comment :) me and 2 friends are planning on getting the eurail pass when we go to Europe this year traveling between between October and December did you encounter any problems showing up day of or day before? like you said we just want to wing it but eurail suggests booking 2 months in advance on their website! which scared us a little also how much was the average reservation fees and how often did you encounter them I've seen 35 euros quoted a few places which if its that much not sure if the pass will be worth it? cause don't want to get left only being able use the regional trains and taking days to get places planning on some longer trips down the coast of France and Spain as well as within Italy and lots of hopping between Northern Europe also. thanks :)

So how does it work when you DON'T need a reservation? Do you just board the train or do you still have to interact with a ticket office first?
