Learn how to write the sinusoidal equation given a max and min for a graph in this video math tutorial by Mario's Math Tutoring. We go through an example given the points (-1,2) and (1,-4) and go through the steps to write both a cosine and sine equation to model the graph. We discuss formulas as well as a more intuitive way to approach this problem. We also discuss the relationship between the sine and cosine graph and how they are horizontal shifts of one another.

Your lighting, sound, and writing board is amazing! Will you make a video tutorial on your studio setup? Thanks a million! :)

Also, it is important to mention that we can write the equation in term of sine as well. In my opinion, for your example, using sine is a bit easier since you don’t have to worry about any horizontal shift, i.e., y = -3sin((pi/2)x) - 1.

My teacher had the problem "Max:(6am, 90) Min:(2am, 10) do you have any advice on determining if the graph is a sine or a cosine function? Thanks.

Hi! Please help me with this. I need a sinusoidal function for defining daily temperatures over one year. I need a minimum at day 91.25 and maximum at day 273.75. The problem I encounter is that for starting with value 0 at day 1 and ending also with 0 at day 365 I need to "move" the graph left with 10 days, meaning that minimum and maximum will be with 10 days out of phase with the days I need. What should I do? Thank you!
