WOW!!!! Thank you for this VERY Inspiring, and interesting video!!! I want to try to "restore" Wild Rice" to my local wetland areas, and habitat restoration projects, and perhaps some "drainage basins, that get routine water runoff...

I just saw this and thank you for the tutorial. I have a pond that this would be perfect for. I looked up some pricing from a place called Kesters Wild Game Food Nurseries, I'm pretty sure they used to be called Wildlife Nurseries, but they have been around forever. I checked their prices today and 10 lb of wild rice is 120.00 (10-17-22), so a fairly expensive deal but worth it if it brings in more ducks. Gonna try maybe in March or so when things thaw out a little. River Refuge Seed has it for 7.95/lb free shipping for 10lb and over

I think the rice in the store just needs to winter in the ground to be the most successful

Hey Ted! Have you been up to your property yet this year to see if the planting from last year has started to spout under the water yet? Trying this for this for the first time this week

Thanks for posting!! If the rice pops in the spring is there any left over rice still around in the fall to draw the ducks in or has it all been eaten?

Hey, like what you’re doing and hope do do something similar. However as a fellow central MN native and one who loves our natural heritage and world, please try to plant true MN wild rice, not cultivated wild rice. If you need help I can get you in touch with harvesters. GUIDELINES: There are three options for obtaining wild rice seed: harvest it yourself, buy it directly from a harvester, or obtain it from a wild plant nursery. There are advantages and disadvantages to each approach. Regardless of the method employed be sure to meet all permit requirements. Seed from local sources is preferred. Do not use seed originating more than 200 miles from the proposed planting site.
