Why McDonald's Got Rid Of The Hamburglar

There was a time when McDonald’s had a whole cast of characters who advertised their menu items, but we don’t see a lot of the McDonaldland gang anymore. Birdie the Early Bird has flown the coop, Mayor McCheese has been voted out of office, and even the Hamburglar seems to have turned away from a life of crime. The fast food bandit has had some different looks over the years, but it’s the red-haired, round-faced Hamburglar that is most fondly remembered (mainly because it’s the least terrifying iteration). Let’s take a look at the real reason why McDonald’s got rid of the Hamburglar.

So McDonald’s got rid of the Hamburgular because they felt their food was too sophisticated. Now that’s funny.

As a kid in the 90s I always wondered why I didn't see more of him. Now I know.

Just watched a 5 minute video about the Hamburglar. That's how strong this weed is.

"Doesn't this guy remind you of Jigsaw from the saw movies?!"
Me: No, not really....

McDonald's didn't want to be associated with criminal activity; lol

It isn't just Hamburglar they got rid of. They got rid of all those characters.

I’d take any of these commercials over the litany of endless big pharma advertisements that dominate the airwaves now. How much medication do people actually need these days? In a couple of years they’re followed by law firms offering representation for damages incurred after using said medications

McDonalds made a mistake by removing its cartoon characters.

Every childhood food theme seemed to revolve around theft...The Hamburglar...Barney always after Fred's Fruity Pebbles...The other Cookie Crisp criminal that also disappeared quietly and left the dog...Trying to steal Lucky the Leprechauns Lucky Charms...the Trix Rabbit going after what was just for kids.

Summer 2000, I was working at McDonald's. A family was hosting a kid's bday party and I received the GREAT HONOR of wearing the Hamburgler costume for the event. That was totally awesome.

Despite growing up in the 90s/00s, I was a big fan of the McDonalds cast of characters. I think it would be cool to reintroduce them for a new generation.

I never thought the characters were creepy or scary.
But I had and still have the ability to think for myself and not let all the Darren's and Karen's put ridiculous ideas in my head.

I usually try not to demean or make people feel bad for their fears, but if hamburglar creeps you out, you seriously need to reevaluate all the decisions you’ve made up until this point

Who ever thought hamburgler was “dressed like the Lone Ranger”? That is a stupid comment

I feel like they could remake them as cartoons in like an Adult Swim type fashion
