Definitely, M1 is a beast. No PC in the current price range will ever match up to the performance of the M1 air or M1 pro but the most important thing to keep in mind while buying apple products is how long it'll get software updates. The M1 was released in 2020 and it's probably going to get only another year of software updates ( till 2025 end ) and then it'll be obsolete. Plus you must also consider the fact that the M3 chipset will also get launched soon this year making the M1 ancient history even though it's still a monster chipset. While it is absolutely value for money currently, I think you'd be better off buying the M2 chipset. M2 was released in 2022 so you can be rest assured to get major software updates for at least 5 years ( till 2027 end ) and considering on your usage, you will get your money's worth out of the macbook. Like for example myself, I'm currently going to be upgrading from amd ryzen 5 chipset directly to the Macbook air M2 ( 2023-15.3 inch ) and I am a very heavy user when it comes to laptops. I'm on my laptop studying, working, coding & trading almost 13-14 hours a day and I needed a very high performance laptop with no worries about it not getting major software updates. So even with the release of the M3 chipset, I will comfortably be using my 2023 macbook air M2 for the next 5-6 years ( till it goes obsolete ) and considering my usage will only grow in the next few years, I will get my money's worth out of it.

I am using M1 air base model 2y+ for programming. It's still a beast but if you're planning to buy the M1 Air for medium or heavy work, go with 16GB RAM because sometimes 8GB isn't enough but it'll get the job done.

I honestly was thinking about getting M1 chip since I had i5 8th gen MacBook Air but got M2 one. Let me be very honest I compared M1 and M2 side by side the only difference was the magsafe and 1080p camera that's it. Internally it wasn't that much of a difference so I bought the M2 one. But kudos to apple even though M1 released 4 years ago it's performance is next to insane.

The thing you should mention must in a video should be ..how many years of software upgrade will one of those recieve ? If macbook air m1 is getting only 2-3 years more as compared to m2 which will be getting 4-5 years then i think m2 makes more sense.

M1 was far ahead of its time
So it is performing best at this point of time.
After 1 or 2 years it will show a dip
Same is with M2 chip, way ahead of today’s time.
So the real difference will be visible in next year

So you can judge now why M2 is kind of equal to M1😊
