Obsidian is the best TTRPG note-taking tool I've seen! Great for DnD!

Obsidian is fantastic. Its value grows over time.

I've just started using it. Seems great so far, can't wait to see what mine looks like after finishing university.

And what's awesome is that it stores notes in a folder system with format that can be read even just by Notepad, so you can easily make a backup of your whole note system by just copying the folder to any place, and then open the notes even if you delete or lose Obsidian. You can basically copy all your notes on your external drive and then easily open them from anywhere without even using Obsidian.

It looks like Stellaris galaxy map lol

great btw. I love Obsidian. I was using OneNote but it became soon early on that I would loose all of my information if I left the job that had it. So i started looking for others and Obsidian was the first one that popped up, been using it since. Such a powerful and modifiable tool for ANY TTRPG or someone using it for every day note taking/reports

Please know that you are the reason I downloaded this app.
And I am very grateful for it to you.

Didn't really show why this tool is supposed to be powerful, but I'm glad it's working for you.

There are also extremly cool comunity plugins for maps, fantasy calander a theme to give it the whole dnd style...., I put my vault on google drive and synchronize it on my devices so I can access it from everywhere even my phone ( with some third party sync app), i enjoy the use of templates for snippets like a quick initiative table, npc/character sheets, session notes, town descriptions.... im sure almost everyone can make it fit their needs

I tried Obsidian for my DM notes, but the format is too vertical for me. I missed OneNote too much where I can put an image to the side of my wall of text for information, battlemap, and character portraits.

I realize Obsidian has greater potential than OneNote, but I don't know of a way to create the format I'm familiar with in Obsidian.

True, the visualization graph is of limited usefulness. But still the app seems quite good, after 1 week of use.
Steep learning curve though.
The graph view might be more helpful when a search query is applied, so that it can reduce the size.

I'll have to try it some more.

Awesome!
Checked your videos but couldn't find a tutorial or plug-in tips that you are using for TTRPG note taking
Do you have one or any video that you recommend to check about this?
Thanks so much!

Unpopular opinion: how on earth is that mapping visualization actually useful? 😅

nodes visualisation is only for aesthetic purpose..they are not useful...like mandmap...means people are taking notes just to make note and add more nd more to make it like football with colors

I move from Obsidian to Heptabase. For me, Obsidian score 75%, Heptabase can score 85%, at dimension of note taking & project planning to execution.
