Why Are People Leaving Obsidian for This Note App? | Capacities Review

I'm seeing lots of people saying they're now switching to this note app from others, especially Obsidian. Capacities is like a cross between Notion and note apps like Logseq, Obsidian and Reflect. A little similar to Anytype which I reviewed a few weeks ago. In this video, I talk about what you can do with Capacities and why many people are choosing to switch to it.

What people are forgetting is if you keep jumping between applications, that’s taking away from time and energy you could use for creating and learning.

For many of us, we prefer our notes -- our "second brain" -- to be fully owned and managed by ourselves, rather than by a corporate entity. This removes the risk of our data being subject to the whims of the market and developers in terms of access, features, and cost. This is probably a good alternative for the average person, but I can't see most true users of Obsidian actually wanting to switch.

I think the main objective of note taking apps must be to take notes and not internet connection. Obsidian and logseq is an epitome of such tools because their priority is the complete ownership of data and the ability to use the tool without the internet connection be it woods or airplane which is more private and secure. Anytype too again focuses on "offline first" and then backup the notes to the node(cloud) when there's internet connection. These tools really prioritise note taking and not the need for internet connection just to take a simple note.

I don't see how this app is even remotely comparable to Obsidian. Obsidian is a notes app that stores your information locally and syncs using E2EE. Capacities does not have these features or privacy protections. From what I can tell, like Notion, you don't really "own" your information in this app. That is a huge concern for me.

I value Privacy. So, Obsidian is much better than capacities.

Honestly, I don't know many persons who left Obsidian.

No tool is perfect but it's continiously improving updates after updates with new features (and plenty of community plugins available), while still remaining free, interroperable (markdown format), synchronizable and privacy respectful (local storage with the freedom to sync with any sync software). Another big advantage of Obsidian for me is that it does not force me to follow a specific way to organize your notes unlike many other apps.

There are not a lot of apps offering all these advantages ...

Nobody has left obsidian and nobody will. It’s the best product right now . Totally in love with it.

As many other commenters have already pointed out
There's no way Obsidian people like me would leave Obsidian to this Capacities app
Obsidian have many advantages and features out of all the other note taking apps key important one is the private data ownership of data with key features from many popular note taking apps RoamResearch (Second brain of linking notes) to Notions integrated features of All in one note taking that's the reason why Obsidian started to begin with
Capacities entire design language from the start is made for the Apple people aka people who have preference of aesthetical simplicity which is seen on several of your video chapters (Graph view, Page Layout, Gallery and Table views etc) over functional complexity and these are entirely two different approach and target for app user customers not even the same
Even the paid model is a exact copy of Apple centric app AI Assistant and AI chat which can be used freely if you know how to sort out the hugging face extension in Obsidian
Video title is very click baity with no reason to even exist cuz the target user of Obsidian and this app Capacities are very different even if they look similar in a glance
If vid was titled new simplified obsidian or obsidian alternative both neutral titles would be much better than this type of click baits also shows need further research or writing change from the creator

The biggest drawback of this app is that u can not use on moblie for free plan, you need to switch to paid plan to use on mobile. also formatting is vary bad, if you copy md file to paste in Capacities, it will show badly

Yes, let's not use applications where you can store information on an encrypted disk, synchronize between devices in any way, even through your personal git. Plus, you can edit files with regular vim. In favor of cloud-centric and closed-source apps that sell your content to third parties and train artificial intelligence

I actually go back to Obsidian after tried out Capacities and some others app. the most deal breaker for me is when I copy markdown to Capacities, it's fine but I copy that to paste to others places and the format just broke down. And it's hard to copy the whole page to other places

I recently got started with obsidian, but I'll not switch for tiny bits

Also, obsidian doesn't need internet to work with, and I can use 3rd party sync so, for it it's privacy + control, which is good enough for me to stay

Capacities is really cool, but for Long Term writing and privacy i still think Obsidian is much better

Is there a way to list all the tasks I created in different notes? Like in a meeting, list that I should do X+Y+Z task by the 20th of december, and have a way to see all the tasks

One big issue with me with capacities. Its not opensource meaning once they stop working in the future I would just go back to obsidian. They are built by a company not the community and because it is not opensource you will never know what they are doing with your notes.

obsidians absolute MASSIVE ADVANTAGE is
+ It stores its information on your device and not in some sort of internet cloud thingy.
+ It has as much storage as your Device is. if your PC has 1 terabyte storage, your obsidian has 1 Terabyte storage.
+ It doesn't require the internet to get access to your files. its fully Offline app. all you need is Charge your PC.
+ It is a FREE APP. No monthly subscriptions etc.

as long as other note apps did not implement these features. Obsidian stand tall among any Note apps without any worry🤣🤣🗿🗿
