iPhone 13 Pro Max vs iPhone 12 Pro Max vs DSLR Nikon D780 Lowlight performance, night mode and comparison

iPhone 13 Pro Max got really better in terms of lowlight capabilities compared to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max now have bigger sensors, much faster aperture on the Ultra-Wide Camera and full night mode on the Telephoto camera as well. I compared all 3 camera modules of iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro Max in lowlight both in standard and portrait modes in night mode of course. Also I added a Full Frame DSLR camera Nikon D780 with 17-35mm f2.8 and 24-70mm f2.8 lenses in the comparison both in RAW and JPEG pictures, so we can can compare the performance of all 3 cameras side by side. Enjoy Watching!

Thanks for a really useful video. I was quite surprised to see how little difference there is between the 13 and the Nikon.

For low light quality it's cool, but my main problem with the 12 and 13 pro max cameras is the lensflare, it's really annoying

Handheld night shots with a DSLR require a good stabilization that allows you to get ISO down to 400 or less. The new mirrorless cameras have some advantages in that regard. However I would always try to take night shots with a tripod. Even with an iPhone, that only needs a very tiny tripod. And those shots should be taken as long as there is still some blue in the sky. Then you can achieve amazing results that do not have any noise, but are very sharp at the same time.

What's the cost of your camera + gear you use vs the iPhones, just curious?

either at 3:04 or 2:47 the iPhone 12 and 13 seem to be swapped, judging by the color of the sky.

The iPhone still likes to blow out lights with its night mode compared to some other phones.
Though not so much in the scenes you have here

DSLR shots are still pretty easy to spot to a trained eye. The 13 is looking great though. Great comparison. Subbed

Are you using RAW files on the iPhone??

hello good video, a tip, next time upload video in 1440p instead of 1080p. youtube compresses 1440p with vp09 codec which is much better than the avc codec youtube uses for 1080p videos. several people have done this test, you can research on that.

If you put the real camera on a tripod and shot a long exposure you can massively cut noise. if you had the phone on a tripod would this help?

Hi there buddy. Great video image and quality so crisp…the one you posted. What’s the camera and lens set up you used to film it?
Thanks

The 50 mm f1.4 g and the 85 mm f1.8 will bring out the best from that Nikon sensor. It is the same or similar to the one in Z6. Plenty of wedding photographers turn up with a Z6 or a D780. I wonder why they don't think about turning up with an Iphone. Pretty soon maybe.

I think you should have shot in pro raw on iPhones, much better results on the 12 pro, so I suspect even better on 13 pro

You should compare the photography department with Fuji X100V. iPhone has a small sensor it is not a proper photographers camera.

I agree that a dslr, for professional work, is ultimately the better tool but for the average shooter these latest phones are just fine. Amazing tech, amazing video

Low light photo on Nikon but using 1/30 or 1/60 and high iso and calling it noisy…………… ummm why not use a longer shutter speed? Night mode photos on phones does the same too
