I had a St Bernard named Beethoven a 225 pound male, not fat but MASSIVE. He was the sweetest most loving dog ever. It has been 25 years since he left us but I still miss him to this day. When walking him, he drew a crowd EVERYWHERE I went. People wanted to pet him, take pictures with him. He was always happy to meet new people, he loved children.

Their eyes speak volumes about how gentle and loving they are.

I had my beloved Bernard Zoe for 11 years. She was a beautiful 1/2 mask, mahogany puppy that no one wanted. Grew up to be 150#. One of the best fur babies I ever had!

I grew up with a Saint Bernard, a female named Anastasia that lived to be 13 and was 130lbs. As kids my brother and I would lay on the floor and use her as a pillow while watching TV. She was always loving and gentle, except for one single time. My dad was out of town and someone tried to break into our back door, and that was the only time I ever heard her growl or bark like that, and it was very different from when she was playing. Whoever was trying to get in went home with his hands empty and his pants full. She slept by that door every night until my dad was back home.

Growing up with Newfoundlands, as well as lover of large breeds, I have never understood the "too big" thing. Many large breeds are totally chill, non-barkers, and fabulous family pets, just as you have seen here. Yes, they slobber, but to me the only down side is that they do not live long.

As an owner of a 5 year old St Bernard I can’t overstate how gentle and calm they are.

I had a German Shepherd before and she was always barking and super aggressive to strangers and other animals to the point she couldn’t be off leash. My 150 lbs Saint Bernard got attacked and bit by an off leash chihuahua in my yard. She was so confused about why it didn’t wanna be her friend . Also, she doesn’t bark without a serious reason.

I also had a Golden Retriever and he was big but still 6lbs lighter... I actually had both at the same time and even though he was 13 years old and she was 2 he was the one pushing her to play all the time. Most people don’t realize those medium size dogs are WAY more energetic and eat more than Giant breeds who are content leaning against you rather then running laps..

I have a shepherd/husky mix. She has eaten shoes, phone chargers, rugs, phones, head phones, bath towels, chewed on a wooden bed frame, but I still love her.

Amazing dogs. My wife and I had a male St. Bernard “Bernie” and he was such a loyal and loving dog. Very intelligent and also stubborn, so happy we had him in our lives.

What brought publicity to this breed to me is Beethoven and Cujo.

I raised a Saint Bernard. She was a petite Saint, about 107 lbs, and absolutely beautiful, a real head-turner. She had all of the health problems we dread for a giant breed, which cost a lot of money. All I can say is, it was worth it. Every day with my Saint was better than any day without her. It's a special breed, and an extraordinary experience to raise a Saint. Jasmine was irreplaceable and so tomorrow I begin to raise my first Newfoundland! :)

Beautiful breed! I'm so glad Rhiannon spoke about bloat. It's so dangerous and something we need to be mindful of the deep chest dogs.

We've had 6 Saints since 1987. We intend to get our 7th in the spring. We live in the northern U.S. and LOVE the breed!

I grew up with St. Bernards as a kid, (I had three), and they were the most loving dogs ever. We picked up a St. Bernard puppy in December 2020 at 7 weeks. Now he is almost seven months old and he is already 100lbs. He is so awesome!!!

I own a Saint Bernard and she is the sweetest most kindest dog I have ever owned! Her eyes always speak right to me and they really do want to make you happy. She’s my best friend and I’m so glad I adopted her! After watching this I need to get her a bib though! How adorable. 🥰
