I had great timing with the 2025 Genesis GV80 because the week before, I had the opportunity to drive the G80. This made things easier to compare if the sedan or SUV variant of the Genesis 80 series works best for you.
When I got the GV80, the Storr Green Matte paint was an incredible color to see. With it parked in my shaded driveway, the finish gave a dark gray or a faded black finish. Then when you get close to it, the incredible amount of metallic flake to the paint, starts to show the really nice shade of green. You’ll really enjoy it when the sun hits it to show off its true color. The 22-inch wheels fit nicely in the big SUV with a classy 5-spoke design with a machined design to it. Its side profile offers a look of it going fast while standing still.
Getting inside of the Genesis GV80, you’re greeted with a combination of the Earth Brown Smoky Green colors. The interior green color will give a you a similar experience to the exterior color. You won’t truly realize it's a green till the bright sun is coming in from the 2 section panoramic sunroof. Once you have a seat, it’ll be difficult to leave because you’ll get pampered with a massage option and your choice of heating or venting. The massive 27” OLED display on the dash is split between the gauge cluster and the infotainment. The OLED option offers a rich range of colors, bright lighting, and sharp resolution.
Under the hood, the 3.5L twin turbo V6 offered a smooth delivery of 375 horsepower. Although the massage seats had me in a relaxed cruise, hitting the redline through the available 8-speed auto, had me alert and enjoying the decent sound from the V6. The suspension does feel a little bit sportier than the G80 sedan’s did so if you want the floaty cloud-like feel, you’ll want to opt for that instead. The GV80 did have some pretty nimble acceleration, but be ready for spirited turns as you’ll definitely feel the weight of the large SUV.
Overall, if you’re in the market for a G80 or GV80, you can’t go wrong with either one. If your need is the larger cargo space, I’d got with the GV80. If you’re wanting a more relaxed cruiser that can still get up and go, I’d choose the G80.
