Philadelphia VS Lidl brand Cream Cheese for Cheesecake? | 6 inch NY Cheesecake | TSpoon Recipes

Ingredients below.

When it comes to making a cheesecake, we all know to go to the shops and grab a good ol' tub of Philadelphia soft/cream cheese. Right next to it you will see the store brand but may have never really thought of it being good enough for that silky smooth cheesecake you are drooling about in your head. Well friends, it may be time to reconsider.

On another note, here in the UK, we do not get the cream cheese block often mentioned in US cheesecake recipes and you may have wondered why your cheesecake does not look like theirs.

Here I look at the difference in a NY style cheesecake using Philadelphia and Lidl soft cheese, first looking at the cheeses and then comparing the results in a baked cheesecake that follows the exact recipe for both - on50e using Philadelphia cheese and McVitie's Digestive VS Lidl brand Soft Cheese (Milbona) and Lidl Digestive (Towergate). The results are surprising, and may save you more than a few pennies next time you want to make cheesecake!

Ingredients for 6 inch NY Cheesecake:

*Cheesecake Filling*

Very, very helpful as I am trying to make a sturdy and stable cream cheese frosting for a wedding cake.

Fantastic. A no nonsense recipe that covers all the bases. I personally prefer the slightly denser recipes but the comparison was really useful. Thanks a lot for posting. All the best from Panama.

Thanks for making this video, it's very informative and I feel more confident to bake my first cheesecake! (As an aside, I wish that off-brand digestive biscuits had a higher whole-wheat flour content, that's what gives them such a great texture. Maybe I should make my own lol)

Really well done and well made video. Thanks for the detail. I came here because the recipe I used called for liquids (rum, coffee), which made the batter runny. I thought maybe a thicker soft cheese than Philadelphia would solve the problem 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Thanks for this, I am actually looking for good cream cheese alternatives to Philadelphia in Lidl. Do you have a recipe for an 8-inch form pan? Thanks!

Thank you! This information is nowhere else! I didnt realise there was a difference between cream cheese blocks and soft cream cheese, so knowing the brand is very useful. What is the fat content of the Lidl one? Thanks 🙏🏽

Do you have a cream cheese frosting recipe? The recipes I have come across tend to require a lot of icing sugar to make it hold it’s shape and I find them too sweet.

My country doesn't have both so I use anchor cream cheese 😊
