Practiced benign neglect skills on myself recently while hiking. Almost had to call the ranger station for them to come get me off the top of a Boulder.

Honestly, I completely agree with this, kids need to be able have independence and learn to do things on their own, and it’s this mom is learning how loosen the reigns a bit considering how she normally has a stranglehold on every aspect of her kids’ lives

Kinda agree with that skill though. As soon as sitch actually turned dangerous she was on him.

Good that you point out how children have to learn from struggling for themselves. We often seem too afraid to let them experience life, these days. Stunting their growth with our fears!

I watch her too much lol- but I love watching her because I just love seeing the nature she’s in and I love her outfits

‘Benign Neglect’ ie letting kids interact with nature. We had giant sea rocks on the beach near my Nonni’s house, and all the kids would scale them and jump off into the water and slide around. Like yeah slight risk of hurt, but instead all of us became good at climbing, jumping, and swimming

I always climbed on everything growing up (still do, if there aren't too many people around, lol). Other parents would sometimes freak out, and my parents would just shrug and say "it's fine, she always does that". And it _was_ fine, I learned to gauge my strength and comfort level, and I've never fallen or broken any bones :D (it probably depends on the child, though, I wasn't reckless, and only climbed where I was confident my grip would hold)

"Benign neglect skills" I had no idea someone had put a name to it. I just always called it, "Raising boys". 😂😂😂

I didn’t know there was a name for this! When I’m sitting there panicking and trying not to cry while my husband says “He’s alright…See? He’s fine…That’s…hahaha ok son. Let’s just, I’m gonna go ahead and grab-son omg SON!!! GET DOWN!!!”

Benign neglect sounds like the perfect way go into medical debt

I've learned that the best approach is to educate kids on the dangers and scare them by showing them videos of spine injuries.

Lol we don't have those boulders here. Definitely got in trouble as a kid on vacation though because I LOVED to climb

That's pretty much me.
And then the other parents ask me why my kids are so agile and athletic. That's why, b**ch.
