Setting Up Planted Tank Substrate - Dirt and Carib Sea Eco Complete

For gravel just use cheap gravel from a box store or Petco or what have you.

I have not used it in a tank but WILL in the future. I did just use it to cap and retool several of my outdoor garden beds. One bag would do a lot of aquarium for under 10 bucks but there is a lot of wood in it so screen it out some.

Just came back to this video to say, have had my freshwater planted 20 long up for around 3 months. So easy using this method and really looking good now with minimal upkeep

So cool you’re doing aquarium videos right now. My family and I are just getting back into the hobby.

Thank you kindly! Right on schedule! I bought a bag yesterday, and this answered some of my questions about if I should still use dirt/gravel as well as the eco complete, and what the benefits would be. Cheers

I am interested in dirt, eco-complete and gravel top. Do you have any videos showing your results? Dustin has video showing all his plants dying. Do you recommend this still?

Can I add gravel to an aquarium that’s already been fully planted and scaped?

Thanks for the helpful video. Question on the Eco-complete - did you notice any ph increase with it? I've read that happens sometimes, and I'm trying to figure out under what conditions.
Also - when you added the ferts, does this cause an ammonia spike in the tank?
I'm considering adding dirt, eco and a cap to an existing already cycled bare bottom tank, but would rather not have to begin a whole cycle all over to work off ammonia if it is leached from the dirt or fert. Sorry if this is a rookie question. I'm still learning. Thanks!

So are there certain substrates that couldn’t top off the dirt? I have a finer gravel and already have fluval stratum in the tank. Should I just top the stratum with eco complete? Please and thank you

Is it possible instead of gravel on top. Can I use soft sand to top it off? I want some Kuhli loaches and I did some research and they happens to prefer soft sand. But I haven’t found anything about mixing soft sand with eco complete yet

Good to see you doing aquariums Jack. Have you hooked up with the fish tank community here on youtube? There’s quite a decent fishkeeping community in the “fishfam” as they have dubbed themselves.

I wish they made ecocomplete in a sand color. I just personally don't like black sand/gravel. I'd do a tank in completely dirt and clay if i didn't think it would be a complete disaster haha. I just like things to look like the creek or lake down the street you know.

Hi, :) So I can't read the label of the "cheap" gravel you're using. Can you please tell me what it is? Thx.
Hope you follow up with this vid, too.

Hey just picked up some eco complete myself. Thinking of putting dirt on the bottom as well. Still working well for you ?
