I never understood how in black households sex and pregnancy is never talked about. It’s like we grow up and at a certain age our parents expect us to know everything about sex and whenever we ask questions or just curious about something we get deemed as “growing up to fast”.

Parenting out of fear 😰 instead of talking and explaining things to your children = trauma

This story made me feel so sad .., , , I can relate. My mom always jumped to the conclusion that I was doing something really bad… when I fact I was so not doing anything. I never had a date in high school. I couldn’t go anywhere… God I hope this type of parenting has stopped.
Parents need to listen to their kids and not just react out of fear of what could be going on.
What if you has been pregnant …?
I hope you and your mom had a chance to build a better relationship over time.

It's actually sexual assault and my mom is guilty of this too. It's so humiliating and u feel violated. Kids are human beings and we all develope at our own pace. LET YOUR CHILDREN GROW AND BE WHO THEY ARE! Talk them thru the process. That's all u can do but forcing ur kids to be who u want them to be will end bad

I was the queen of sneaky, that lady didn't find anything I didn't want found 😂 she'd pass out if she knew my first kiss was in like 3rd grade lol and I was the most sheltered kid so it's not like I had seen all this stuff in my environment 🤦🏾‍♀️, but I never did anything else as a child cuz I told myself I WILL NOT be that teenager, I'm an only child and I js wanted to be different, and she always shares how grateful she was that I wasn't a troubled child. But I definitely did some sneaky things she'll never know about, I'm 28 now 😂😂

I’m sorry about your Grandfather. My Daddy passed a couple years ago. My sister and I each got and wear one of his shirts to sleep in.

As an Adult who has went through similar experiences as a child. Black Parents really didn’t understand how traumatizing they were. Like when I go to therapy and they start talking about my childhood trauma affecting me today baby.

Chile… a hot mess. Too many times parents literally violate their kids and have them dragged so low to the most humiliating tactics. All because of their own insecurities and short comings as parents. They be the #1 abusers. It’s disgusting.

That is very traumatic. People carry trauma and traumatize if they don't recognize it. My daughter has journals she left at home and I have never read them. She graduated from college and at this point-I don't want to know. Some things need to go to the grave with you lol

I promised myself not to be the parent who jumps to conclusions. I think all parents should set rules & guidelines. A lot of parents don't talk to their kids about sex, s.t.d's, heartbreak, etc. They just assume they will or they are. Some parents think making threats indirectly about their child " she better not come up pregnant " etc. Being overly strict doesn't help. The girls from those homes still snuck around. They were sneaky or got pregnant young anyway.

I really don’t like how mom handled it.. that’s how you get your daughter to never trust you again she should have eased into it had a conversation first before blowing her top

I had a close friend this did happen to. She is a success story. She graduated from both high school and college on time. She went on to getting her PhD. Guess what that child she had went on to get I think her Masters. She has done well for herself. She wanted more for herself and her child.

Ooh that story took me BACK! Ms.Gina ( my mom) was a FOOL. since I was a 90’s kid ( no cellphone) so my mommy would either page me or call my friends house phone. My mom would call and be screaming on the other end and my friends would be standing rite there. I know they heard her yelling at me, I would try to play it off …even after she done hung up the phone on me. Another horrible experience was a”play cousin” tells my mom that I let a neighbor boy climb threw my window….WTF ?? So we all at the park wen the girl told her that. Ms Gina called me over from playing ( I’m 13) and commenced to mauling my head and, cussing me out in the middle of the park… in front everybody. I’m like WTF.. “Mama wut I do “ “ why u hitting me” “ I didn’t do it”. Mind u I have NO idea why she kicking my ass in front everybody. Needless to say the girl was Lying, she thought she heard me say some shit like that! I was so mad at that girl, I didn’t talk to her for a few weeks. I was so traumatized and, embarrassed. All the kids and, some adults seen and, heard all my mom said. So the adults were looking at me like I was “ FASS “ and y’all know in the black community ain’t nothing worse than for a young girl to be “FASS” or a young boy to be “Mannish “. I never received an apology and, at 41 years old I can still remember the hurt & shame I felt that day 😔. I love my MOMMY tho. I lost her in May 2019 and, I sure do miss her. I forgave Her a long time ago bcus wen u know BETTER, u do BETTER. She was a product of the times and, her upbringing . This was 1993 or 94 parents were different back then. I try and, NEVER publicly humiliate my children nor do I call all the family and, friends and, talk shit about my kids. Something else that was done back in the day as well. Thanks for reading all of this, sorry for the long story lol.

This is why you ask kids questions instead of just giving a whooping because you went and read a journal. This is why kids don’t talk to their parents now

I remember my mamma said something like “idk maybe you’re pregnant or something” that traumatized me as well because I was 16 and at the time she knew I was trying to wait until I was married. But I’ve come to term that my mom has some narcissistic traits. But I remember that night I literally had a anxiety attack. I didn’t even know what a panic attack was at that point. I couldn’t breathe, I was light headed and I started crying at the dinner table. No one heard what she said and my step dad came in while I was having an anxiety attack. No one ever heard when she would do these things they just saw my reactions. I think it made me look unstable. But really she was covert and so is my older sister. She does the same thing. Now that I’m older I just don’t deal with them at all.

Oh no!!! That's what I'd never do to my daughter. Parents don't have a handbook to raising children, but mama no that wasn't it at all. You have to listen and speak with your child to build a relationship so they'll come talk to you about anything. I hate that happened to you. I'm in counseling for the traumatic things that happened during my childhood. I think you need to do the same. It will keep you sane.
