It’s wild seeing how dead some of the worlds have been since this hero pass drama. Tbh it’s what Jagex deserves after their years of just straight up ignoring the player base. I do hope it turns around though I really love this game and would hate to see it totally die

They nearly killed the damn game. This effects all of us, and like you said, they didn't even make the money.

They had the chance to not add hero pass to the game with the stream vote but completely ignored it and thought "hey we've got these players by the nuts for a lifetime" .... Guess not =D

I'd like to say I trust Jagex to fix Hero Pass. But when you log in and look at the Seasons treasure hunter promotion and notice how predatory that is, it's hard to have any faith that they'll do anything other than the bare minimum required to stop the review bombing, while trying to sneak in more ways of milking us for all we're worth. I'm still hanging on to the thread of hope that they'll prove me wrong, but it's feeling more and more like a heap of copium and hopium.

I wish instead of Focusing on mtx they would focus on actually attracting new players to rs3.. Its what is needed.

Actually it would be awesome to see the game go bankrupt, because it will sell for so cheap that one of us will be able to afford it.

Init, you've done such a good job covering this issue during the Hero Pass scandal, maybe you should act like a point man to bring our concerns to Jagex. I know Jagex has reached out to creators in the past to get their feedback, so maybe you can try to establish some lines of communication with Jagex so if something like this happens again, you can consolidate and deliver our feedback to Jagex. I think that will help with communication quite a bit

The empty worlds reminds me of the aftermath of Bot Nuke Day way back in the day. I hope the game recovers.

I’m taking a break from RS for now. Been playing almost daily since the start of 2020 and I’ve also decided not to renew my membership (I bought premier and got some extensions from Prime Gaming) when it ends this year in December.

I already had second thoughts about renewing earlier this year (content wasn’t really that enjoyable for me as a casual but maxed player) but hoped Necromancy would change my mind. Unfortunately, it didn’t really do that and this Hero Pass fiasco made the decision easier.

My opinion of Necromancy:
It’s a new combat style but it’s ultimately still combat, and you’re using it at old combat content and the new bosses didn’t really bring any enjoyment for me. A huge chunk of necromancy’s gameplay loop on release/thus far is rituals, and let’s be honest, how long can you do the same thing at the same place before getting tired of it? With archaeology u were at least excavating at different places with different sceneries, which made it feel fresher despite it “being the same”. Idk, maybe it’s just me.

I had an idea last night in the shower about this problem and here’s what I briefly came up with:
Imagine if you went to different historical/archaeological sites to recruit wandering/lost souls to your cause. They already introduced lost/wandering souls during the skill’s release so thematically it’s not a stretch. In this case it’s just not contained in the City of Um. So anyway, you would need to build makeshift ritual sites with the construction skill (expanding on Fort Forinthry’s concept of construction in the surface world and giving construction even more uses), then you excavate materials at the site to make specific ritual items (thematically I imagine using special candles/other items made using materials from that place to attract souls who are emotionally attached to that place). This adds archaeology into the mix. Then you finish the ritual with necromancy as you currently would.

It’s sort of like an elite skill without actually being one (no singular and hard level requirements starting at 80 as a barrier of entry, but rather progressively higher ones associated with each site that encourage interaction with other parts of the game to progress). I think it’s important that new skills interact one way or another with the existing ones to give them “purpose” in the broader game. This idea could still work for future updates to necromancy, like new abilities that are thematically connected to a certain place. So any new archaeology mini dig sites can be linked to necromancy while being expansions to archaeology itself. Mini dig sites in new/revamped locations also allow Mod Blkwitch and co to flex their environmental design muscles even more, which is an absolute win to me.

There is also my problem with the skill tree. It doesn't feel like progression to me. From the first ability unlock to the very last on the tree, it's the same process of communion rituals for souls and getting xp to unlock skill points. Like you could afk bound skeletons for the first ability just as you would the last ability to gain that xp. Maybe this would be too grindy for unlocking all abilities, but if you have a select few abilities (perhaps the stronger ones) that are thematically linked to a place, my idea described so far could give you a real sense of progression. A different twist to the process and putting in work to permanently unlock a powerful ability (as opposed to an RNG drop). This sense of progression is another reason why a lot of people liked archaeology, no? It's a gathering skill no doubt, but for a lot of people you feel the sense of progression when u complete collection logs. Or with boss logs. Again, this wasn't something I felt with necromancy's skill tree.

Just my shower thoughts, but in the meantime I’m playing other games like Civilization 6.

Yak track stopped me playing about 2 years ago, I was trying to catch up on quests and the incessant event spam and yak track grind killed my enjoyment.
I was so physically exhausted trying to finish a timed event that I passed out in my chair and woke up to find I had not cashed in the rewards, and so I had missed out on that holiday event, on top of this I had been trying to finish the yak track in time but kept being given ridiculous tasks that would require me to either spend 200 mil on supplies or 200 hours to finish 1 task.

I logged out and just never logged back in, leaving the yak track unfinished, I still had 6 months of membership, but I just let it run out because I couldn't bring myself to play the game.
I missed the whole elder gods wars thing, something that was one of the reasons I had even returned to the game, I recently felt like I would give it another shot since I had been given free membership through prime only to hear that Jagex is determined to double down on this fomo marketing.

It's gotten to the point where I feel like not playing is the only option, the "fear of missing out" that is woven into the very fabric of RuneScape has just made the game unplayable, you log in to complete some quest or grind some skill, and you have to spend the next 20 to 200 hours doing arbitrary tasks to complete their exclusive event of the week, month or season. By the time you've completed the event, you're too tired to get back to the game you logged in to play, and so the actual game beneath the exclusive events is unreachable because it's always buried beneath endless lists of arbitrary tasks.

Almost 25 years of content already exists, but no matter how much you grind, Jagex always distracts you with another pointless procedurally generated list of tasks, playing RuneScape is like actively choosing to take the punishment that was given to Sisyphus, all you want to do is play the content on top of that mountain but Jagex keeps giving you boulders to push up the mountain, every time you reach the summit they take your money, so you can finally play the content you wanted to play, and then they kick you and the boulder back to the bottom.

Obviously I won't be coming back, this break of two years just got another 2 year extension, by the looks of things and the fact companies are buying and selling Jagex like a hot potato, it's very possible that my break will be longer than Jagex as a company has left, record revenues is great, but there is nothing sustainable supporting their continued existence. Everything is about quick short term gains, exclusive timed events and every other psychological tactic developed to separate their players from their money, then when players come to the end of their membership they have nothing left to renew and another long term customer is lost.

So many people like me are actually willing to come back and pay money to play the game, if only they'd actually let us play the game buried beneath all these exclusive timed events and endless procedurally generated tasks. Hopefully Jagex ends up in some companies hands that can see the long term financial possibilities of RuneScape, it could actually be a good long term investment, but the desperation and greed for quick money is killing the game and ironically will end up with the game suffering financially.
But I guess those who are making the money were never concerned about its long term financial security, and both those who make the game and play the game are in the same sinking ship, those who've plundered the game in the name of short term profits will sail off into the sunset with their eyes fixed on the horizon for their next victims.

I haven't logged into the game since day one hero pass. After seeing the pass and the obvious money grab it's removed all enjoyment for me.
I was never massively into completing daily challenges and would do them from time to time.
But being forced into it was too far for me

Honestly, I personally have been waiting for a reason to "quit, " aka take a long break. Hero pass was one good reason, but strangely enough, Alt-1 stopped working, and my troubleshooting got me nowhere. Third party/ QOL stuff really does impact a player base. If you're already on the fence about the game, and all the stuff that made the game more fluid goes away, it pushes you over that fence. Welp, hope this break lasts a while; at least until everything is focused towards the betterment of the player rather than company revenue.

I am fighting the urge to log back on
Honestly knowing that runescape is a billion dollar game now, with the little updates we are getting and how severely we are milked makes me believe that logging back in into this game is just not the right choice
Was eaiting for vorkath or for otherstyles to be balanced and we got this crap
They are going to pull a jagex on us again, cant trust them anymore

Imagine quitting the game because of hero pass. An extracurricular that doesnt have any effect on gameplay. Some lamps (which is a generous bonus) and outfits that nobody will wear. Literally who cares? They could remove hero pass, challenges and treasure hunter altogether and it wouldn't change the game at all. I don't understand all the tears

I think their response was pretty decent. EDIT: It's kind of like committing a murder and then feeling remorse and apologising and then leading police to every single murder you ever did.

I was so excited about Necromancy and was playing nonstop when it came out. Hero Pass has really made me unmotivated to get 120 necro.

i was gonna use the hero pass slayer tasks to finally get 120 slayer and u guys cried and complained and they removed from the game, second thing was the nerf in death skulls which i still not completed the log. Those 2 things are what is keeping me from playing the game, that being said both jagex and the player base are guilty for what is happening now. Thank you very much players streamers and youtubers that made that "change" now we don't have neither buffs from the hero pass neither the death skulls to farm rasial and complete the log. Congrats community "we did it" said the people that already have 200m or 120 in a lot of skills, regular players that work and don't have much time to play were the most affected as now each kill on rasial is like 1;30min or more and i only have 1;30hours to play a day and i don't see why i paid premier i was hoping those skips in yak trak or advantages in hero pass, now i don't have nothing. Thank you jagex and player base both you could hug each other and jump straight to hell :D
