100 Days of Starmer: riots, freebies and Sue Gray | with Thérèse Coffey & Thangam Debbonaire

Today marks Labour’s 100th day in office. But they are unlikely to be popping champagne corks in Downing Street – even if Lord Alli offered to pay for the Dom Pérignon. This has been a disheartening time for the government and those who wished it well. The promise of dramatic change has been overshadowed by a series of errors, misjudgments and scandals that one would associate more with an administration in its dying days than a government enjoying a fresh mandate, a massive majority and an absent opposition.

Former shadow culture secretary Thangam Debbonaire and former deputy prime minister Thérèse Coffey join The Spectator's Katy Balls to discuss what went wrong and – if we think hard enough – what went right?

// CHAPTERS
00:00 – Introduction
00:52 – Have Labour hit the ground running?
06:58 – Rachel Reeves' 'painful' budget: from fuel allowance to green growth.
19:15 – Sue Gray and wardrobe-gate
20:30 – Can Labour work with Donald Trump?
21:22 – Tory leadership: Jenrick or Badenoch, who would Keir prefer?

The uniparty in all its glory
Not one mention of immigration although a brief ‘riots in the summer’ not the REASON for the riots
Lots of safe topics like ‘Doctors strike’
It’s just the system protecting itself

'Ed Miliband has hit the ground running' hit the ground running to wrecking what is left the of country's industrial base as we become dependant more and more on imported energy an unreliable wind, which isn't cheap.

I understand the criticism of 14 years of Tory failure, but on another level isn't electoral failure after 14 years unavoidable really? By the same standards, Labour's 100 days of failure is a lot more damning.

Debbonaire is truly delusional if she really believes what she is saying.

It’s a shame the Spectator chose two failed politicians for this interview. Can they not attract the big names now?

No wonder these two got the boot from the voters.

Tax is an austerity policy. Labour govt is exiling wealthy people with their funds, VAT mid-class to the bones, Net Zero tax everyone like a poll tax. We shall dive into recession with weakening consumption and worsening tax base. Financial mkt will lose their patience soon.
