FreeCAD 0.20 For Beginners | 22 | : A2Plus Assembly Constraints | Part 1

Learn how to apply assembly constraints to dynamic assemblies in FreeCAD A2Plus assembly workbench. We will learn there basics of constraints of the A2 Plus workbench (a FreeCAD add on) and how to apply them to constrain and allow the assembly to simulate movement. We use both Part Design and Part workflows to create simple parts to link together.

This course is aimed to teach the fundamentals of free CAD understanding the basics but delivering via teaching you different workflows.

The constraint creation at 21:28 didn't work for me at first, had to set the "fixed Position" of the Extrude_001 to "true" before that. Otherwise the error "The highlighted parts were not moved. They are not constrained (also over constraint chains) to a fixed part!" was appearing and the constraint wasn't working.

At 5:50 or so you add shape not part but it is not clear why. What are the consequences? Why chose one and not the other?

At 9:51 I had a lot of difficulty getting the Point Constraints tp take and align. After Working back through the Shape Importation process onward I got it First Time. Something I have noticed in FCAD is that often approaching selection of Point and or Faces/ Edges (In any variety of Work Benches) in a different order or from a different viewpoint will work where a previous did not. I'm pretty sure I'm not imagining this. Is this possibly a selection sensitivity issue? I remember another Tutor mentioning You can adjust Mouse preferences to enhance Selection. No Complaints FCAD has some idiosyncrasies like everything else. Programmers cant allow for every possible combination of selections/ options. As always learning lots, Freecad forum also has some very helpful people but keep it to the point and know what you are asking for help on. Programmer Types tend to be very to the point. :-) RW


In closing I'm starting to see reoccurring Themes (especially in Constraints with Geometry this Tut). Also seeing Techniques I could utilize in Aero Modelling Design. Keep 'em comin' Darren. Also noticed in the Last Exercise Deletion of unsuccessful Constraints, I think that may have been part of My Previous problem? Lastly I now remember something about selecting Left to Right, ? these are the little things that can make it difficult.

Using latest version of Freecad. When I go to import the file, I can't see any files even if I select "any format". I have to close Freecad, reopen and then import eah time. I am using latest Windows 10 too. Just wondering if it happens to others?
