This is the first video for my 2022 FreeCAD Basic Exercises which you can practice while taking my FreeCAD Basic Course.

In this episode you will be creating a carburetor flange which is a great practice for the FreeCAD Sketcher workbench.
You will learn how to use the Polyline and Circle tool and learn about dimensioning and about geometric constraints.

Before watching the complete video, make sure you download the exercise here:

FreeCAD is a powerful open-source 3D modeling software used by designers,
architects, engineers, and hobbyists worldwide. It offers an intuitive interface and a wide range of features, from basic geometry creation to complex parametric modeling.

For absolute noobs like me, who followed step by step and got a TON of errors and frustration, make sure the "Auto-remove-redundants" is selected under the constraints panel. This is my 3rd time looking at FreeCAD, and these little things being left out of tutorials is exactly why beginners give up. This is a 9 min video and I spent 30 mins struggling to figure that out. That's a 3x cost. This speaks to both the institutional knowledge that experienced users forget, as well as generally bad default workflow settings. It's clear after understanding how constraints work now, that he has this setting enabled, as you see the symmetrical constraint ID change from 5 to 4 in this video. So removing redundant constraints is critical to complete this exercise but left out by the author

I like that you speak loud enough and rarely that I can understand with my English. You are doing a wonderful thing.

The exercise was clear and easy. I found it to be a good introduction into Freecad 0.20, thank you.

I tried to follow along, and found most of my problems were self-inflicted and not paying enough attention. But for a newbie, it was my first part! The errors taught me so much also. A big thank you for the series.

I am working in learning FreeCad and have watched lots of videos. Your block of instruction was the best so fare, informative and simple for old minds like me. Thank you for the encouragement and the lesson.

Again, I was at the point of giving up on FreeCAD. Doing well, so far. Did the exercise myself, before watching the video. Only the radius portion came from the video. Never would have guessed how that works. Thanks again. I have high expectations at this point.

I just installed FreeCAD, so I followed the instructions without attempting it myself first. Very good starter tutorial, thanks for this.

Thank you for the video. When you said 16mm I heard it as 60mm and was "Why does mine look so far off right now?" had a good chuckle. Looking forward to watching more of your tutorials and exercises.

I followed your steps and it was clear and instructive. You are great teacher, better than most....for beginners. Well I am a beginner. A couple of days ago I did not even know FreeCad existed. I know nothing about CAD. Today with your tutoring, I drew a flange in CAD!!

I watched the video then I watched it a second time and worked along with you. Then tried it without the video, but I had to go back to you video as i forgot some of the dimensions I got on reasonably well. For me I found it quite difficult, but I think I've learned a lot. As far as i'm concerned that tutorial was excellent. Thank you

it was great to solve the flange first by oneself, then the poly tool with 3XM really sinks in, thank you so much for this great exercise.

This is a great exercise for beginners. I had a few problems at first, but after I found out what commands are called, what they looked like, I was able to easily do this exercise.

In previous companies I worked for I used Pro-Engineer (CREO) and Inventor for the 3D modeling software. Since I cannot afford these programs for home use, this program is perfect. I have to learn what FreeCAD calls there commands, since each software calls them different names.

Thanks for this exercise. I don't see many online courses with quality exercises like this one. It wasn't too hard but it did present a challenge (which I failed, which is good because I learned from it). Took me way longer then 20 minutes, but I am used to disregard teacher's time assessment for homework. You guys always seem to overestimate us 😁

I have watched all of your German lessons to improve my CAD. I am German and live 25 years in the US now and like to state that your English is very good especially no long and pauses, very fluent. Looking forward to learn more FreeCad also for the CAM workbench.

Thank you. Being a complete newbie I had watch and make the flange. I actually did it over, and over, until I could do it without watching your video. On to your next exercise. Thank you.

This was indeed very helpful. Followed your previous videos and found that you were - perhaps - a little fast for newbies when indicating steps, but once I reached this exercice, not only was I able to do the sketch without any help, I also applied the logic of the sketching to the pad for the fillet. I don't know if you voluntarily left this step out of your previous videos, but it's nice to not spoon-feed us everything while leaving us hints and leads to manage by ourselves.

Thanks for your dedication for those tutorials.
