About to start taking Sertraline (Zoloft) and worried about the side effects?

I have been taking it for a few months and have experienced a number of side effects, thankfully these were in the first 2 weeks after I started taking the antidepressants. Sertraline is commonly prescribed for depression and/or anxiety and is often known by the name Zoloft. The side effects I felt when taking Sertraline ranged from weird dreams to fairly inconvenient sickness but I feel like I have made it through the storm and I am in a healthier place. Some people wonder "is sertraline bad for you?" - hopefully this video will help answer that question.

Important Moments:

03:00 - The initial side effects of Sertraline
03:37 - Sertraline causes an upset stomach
04:35 - Sertraline causes dry mouth
05:20 - Sertraline causes headaches
05:55 - Sertraline causes exhaustion
07:05 - Sertraline causes vivid dreams
08:49 - How to get through the side effects of Sertraline

Fed up of trying to get information about Sertraline only to be confronted by overly complex explanations? Looking for someone to walk you through the experience and highlight the highs & lows?

Remember to seek medical advice from your Dr if you struggle with any of the side effects of Sertraline.

I started today after avoiding medication for 20 years. Since the age of 13 now I'm 33 i hope it's time for my happiness 😊

I started taking 50mg for depression/anxiety at a point in my university that was extremely stressful. I took the medication for 4 years and recently stopped. I never had any side effects except for mild nausea about 30 minutes after taking it. I believe the medication was crucial to maintaining wellness in my life at a time when it felt like my coping skills couldn’t help me anymore. Since coming off I dealt with a bit of intrusive depressive thoughts and mild moments of anxiety, but the longer I go off the medication the more these symptoms seem to be less frequent and less intense. I’m very grateful for the insight that I had while taking Zoloft and I hope my story can help someone that is hesitant to start taking medication.

I'm just coming to the end of the 2nd week of taking Sertraline. My side effects were mainly just headaches, tiredness and an incredible dip in mood to the point that I thought life was pointless and hopeless. Things are just starting to improve and I'm beginning to feel that I'm on the road to feeling "normal" again. 🤞

Day four for me. The nights are just brutal. Back pain, tense muscles, chest pain/pressure, restless legs, can’t sleep, anxious, panicked. I hope anyone can relate and if, then you’re not alone! Give your body and mind the time it needs to balance it out, to find its way. Just sit tight and remember what you are doing this for.

I've had depression my whole adult life but never did anything about it. Neglected myself and my relationships with other people.Things got really bad and im glad i started seeking help. About 4 months ago i started taking Sertraline, 50mg. I slowly worked my way up to 200mg. The biggest positive effect so far is how i dont hate myself anymore. I'm willing to risk a bit of conflict by saying what i want/how i feel instead of burying it inside. There is still a long way to go, but i feel like i finally have the right tools.
As for the side effects mine are pretty similar to yours. Did have a strange good side effect from day 1; a mild euphoric feeling an hour or so after taking the meds that would last a few hours. That lasted for the first 2 weeks or so.
Thank you for a good video, and good luck with everything!

It seems like all anti depressants at first have a negative impact & makes people want to quit. I almost did today but decided to persevere. Your story helps a lot. Thanks so much.

I started Zoloft 25 mg two weeks ago and I haven’t had any side effects, it has actually helped my anxiety symptoms so much. I was scared to try it but I’m thankful that I did.

I'm 2weeks in on Zoloft 100mg. No appetite, sweaty palms, restless legs, yawning a lot. It's got me off the couch and I've been walking my dog a lot it's got me out of the house. I hope it continues to get better...

Your story is so much like mine, avoiding medication for a decade. I think as a man you're saying to yourself I can handle this, need to be self sufficient, etc. I started my course of Sertraline today, I almost felt better straight away but most likely a placebo effect, I think there's also some feeling of empowerment that comes from taking your own mental health improvement into your own hands. Nausea is definitely happening at the moment am hoping I can continue to improve, early days yet! Thanks for the vid :)

My top 10 to start Zoloft
1. Nausea
2. Insomnia
3. Restlessness
4. Agitation
5. Mood changing often
6. Headaches
7. Worsening depression
8. Sexual effects
9. Dry mouth
10. Sweating more

Most tend to fade with time. Some stick though long term. My doc wanted me to start at 25mg. Instead I started at 12.5mg on my own against orders due to the side effects being so so strong.

So glad I found your videos. I was on Sertraline 7 years ago! I took it for about 18 months...
While I was on them it was great I felt like me just without the negative self hate inner dialogue. I ran a business and had lots of friends!
I thought my life was going so well and I tapered off, suddenly my life spiralled and I lost everything.
I've spent the last 6 years trying to get it back without antidepressants. Today I took that sertraline again.
Sad for lost time! But nevermimd
