Gizmo knows what Mogwai means - it's Cantonese for demon or devil. He knows that he could be dangerous and he knows that if there were others they wouldn't be like him. He knows that he has to be careful not to get wet or to eat after midnight because he doesn't want to hurt people. You could see how sad he was after the others were born. As well as 'Uh-oh' you can also hear him saying 'Why?' in this scene.

Those sneaky bastards ripped/torn the cord to the clock. It's HIGHLY possible it was AFTER MIDNIGHT when Billy left the room to get some chicken and feed them.

Interesting in that Gizmo rejected being fed because he's comfortable with who he is and recognized that he was with Billy (who loved him and took great care of him in his family home despite his inadvertent missteps) while the other Gremlins rejected what Gizmo represented (cute, hairy and lovable), was convinced by Stripe (taking a guess) that living in a home is repressive, that there's a TON of fun waiting for themselves outside of the house to rule and terrorize....but to fully appreciate it and seize it....they had to lose the fur and (to Stripe) the cuteness....and become....SOMETHING ELSE.

(And of course Stripes' original followers died shortly after their metamorphosis).

And to think none of this would've happened had Billy not fed them after midnight with that plate of chicken legs considering that the mogwai tricked him into thinking it wasn't after midnight by chewing on the cords of his alarm clock.

In the series the midnight rule was actually when the moon was at its highest point but humanity shortened it to be simpler according to the Chinese god who made Gizmo

I feel like Gizmo said Uh oh because he knew that if they ate food they would change into hideous creatures aka gremlins, that’s why Gizmo being so adorable and sweet didn’t eat at all because he will know what would have happened

If the rule is to never feed them after midnight, why not destroy the cocoons immediately. Obviously, something bad will happen.😂😂😂😂. I wouldn't wait to see what comes out of the cocoons. Or leave Gizmo alone with them.
