It’s crazy how many people are blaming DJI for this and their Avata crashing. Your bang on with the vortex flight characteristics as I get the same from my BetaFpv Pavo with hard turns. Drone Camps RC glad you made this video.

I rip my Avata through gates in my backyard all the time, just like my custom 5" builds. It only goes about 60mph, so I'm full throttle with it. I experienced that tumble a couple times, but learned to apply more counter roll to compensate and haven't had it happen since. It's a nice little quad, I use it for a lot of things (head tracking) that my custom builds aren't capable of.

Finally, it has been so weird to see all these channels complaining when they don't understand the physics, or how vortex ring state is involved. SmarterEveryDay has a great series on this.

This is true, the tumble issue of avata is a design issue, no amount of firmware update can resolve it, the only way to resolve it is to upgrade the motor, or convert to 3.5 inch conversion kit.

With the firmware updates, it no longer appears to fall from the sky and instead will just lose about 5-10 feet of altitude as it catches itself and carries on. Maybe you can still get it to fall out of the sky, but I haven't had it happen yet - though I have seen the tumble multiple times.

It has a fail safe for this now. If it happens it just flips to normal falls a few feet and stabilizes itself. I guess if you’re really low it can still crash though.

I did I front flip with my avata and the motor completely stalled any reason on how this occurred or anything I can do to fix it
