Belt keeps slipping off your Troy Bilt/MTD rider? Make sure you have these on the deck!

Yes, the belt guards do help, but they are not really needed. They are mostly there as a safety feature to keep you from putting your hands in there and sustaining an injury. You may just need a new belt or to adjust the tension on the belts

(Mtd only I guess)Also need those two guide bolts on the main pulley on the deck....we have three nuts above and one below so there both at the same level and the head of the bolt is about 1/8th to a 1/4 from the top of the pulley. Also if you have bad threads, use blue lock tight so they dont rattle off.

I bought a poulan pro 42 inch four yrs ago, it didnt come with those guards. Never had the belt come off....it also makes it easier to blow and clean all that grass off after using it.

Yup I just replaced my belt guards and while I was in there replace the belt and the blades runs like a top now. Last week, one of my belt, gurds broke off from metal fatigue and that's exactly what happened, the belt fell off. Ended up ordering a set of them for under $20 from Amazon cured the problem. So
While I was under there I just replaced everything. I've had it for almost 8 years now.I have always done my own maintenance and the thing still runs as good as new.

I got a craftsman just like this looks exactly the same. Belt keeps coming off. The thing was just a pos right from the start and I bought it new. Engine never ran smooth, vibrates bad, bolts loosening up from the vibration, battery dead after one season, tires won’t hold air, shifter is screwed up, and of course the deck belt issue. Never buy anything craftsman that has moving parts it’s guaranteed garbage.

I bought a cub cadet that kept throwing the belt, it was the tensioner, , previous owner must not have known what a grease gun was. It was frozen from no lube. I pulled it, cleaned, lubed it and it never threw one again

Not much older decks are different and john deeres 100 series are my L110 is like its missing a small pulley and needing a brack to help hold the belt in place something to keep it from riding off the pulley on the right side of the old cheap deck

I took off those factory ones and made flexible ones for easy install .
It's just thinner metal that u can bend back and forth works good so far.

Always hated these clutchless designs. All those brackets, springs and b.s. just so you dont have to use a clutch. On my mower with a clutch i can remove and put on a belt in under 5 min with no tools. But these are a nightmare and you have to remove pullys and gaurds etc just to change the belt

I freaked out cause the pulley on mine was loose after I took off one of the guards, this makes me feel way better about my mower!!

So for as long as I’ve had my Troy Bilt Bronco 2014, the belt has slipped off 100x! From the idler pulley. The problem is that the belt keeper has too big of a gap between it and the pulley. The red ones you show here in the video would be great replacements because they bend over the pulley, the newer black ones just go up, not over. Where can I get these red ones??? Please help! It’s been a nightmare!

I have a question, can anyone help me? I have a Huskee, part of the MTD family. It’s a 2011 model. I am replacing a pulley that is the same size as the tensioner pulley. Does the spacer in the bearing go up or down? The pulley actually flew off the lawnmower. I have a new one.
