Oh wow. I have been screwing around with my belt for two years after I took off one of the covers and lost it. Thanks so much.

My belts were getting worn down fast, and I started to realize that the belt was rubbing into the covers as you show, and this would wear the belt down causing it to break. I know you're not supposed to remove the covers, but I've had them off for about 5 years and no belt wearing down issues. Not that I'm recommending this, but with caution it has helped out my situation.

Bought mine second hand with no edge covers. Ran for years with no problem, until I changed the belt. Now it's slipping off all the time. Might try buying some edge covers for it. Thanks

THANK YOU!!! I took my covets off years ago, don't actually know where they are anymore, and never understood why my belt kept coming off.

Thanks man…That helped considerably- to have an understanding of the V belt. If it wasn’t for y’all YouTubers; I wouldn’t know how to fix or correct most the mechanical issues I run into.:)

Thank you. Just what I needed to see/hear. We have an old 130 and belt is very loose when not cutting. Covers/Shields have be gone and who knows where they are.

Appreciate the video, not much on the E series out there. Apparently they’re notorious for losing belts. Definitely helps engaging/disengaging at an idle.

Thanks! My JD E160 has thrown its belt 5 times in the past 4 weeks and I betcha I’ve got it on backwards. Can’t wait to go check it out!

Thanks man! I guess I'll put those black covers back on. Noticed the tension was causing the belt to fall off every time I shut off blades. Thought I could just tighten the tension, but that would've prolly caused more problems.

sir, i got a problem, i have a john deere 125a, and the last time we changed the belt, the belt that the site says i should use(gx20072) was too long, the friend who went to install it said it was too long, even with adjusting some part on the deck, is there some way to fix this?

The video that shows the PTO being engaged / disengaged while running.
You can see how much extra slack the belt has when disengaged. It almost throws the belt off the engine pulley... as if the belt is too long. Mine actually does throw it. And.. like the one in the video, there is no adjustment on that cable that engages the tension pully.

Great video!!! I didn’t know the belt could be inside out like that.

How do you adjust the belt tension? The mowing deck of my E110 has a welded on bracket to hold the PTO cable (does not have the two bolts for adjustments). Thanks.

I have a E100 that has a loose belt. Found the brake spring for the pulley was rusty around the washer not allowing the tension to pull all the way back when the brake was coming off the pulley. Washer had pits and rust. Cleaner and greased and works perfect.

my belt keeps coming off the smaller pully with the metal black rise piece. I don't know if the pully is not being pulled enough or if the pully is too crooked it looks kind of angled on mine. Only main thing I did different is move through tougher weeds and it cause the blades to stop there was some heavy jerking. since that happened now belt keeps coming off
