Yharim has a depressing backstory, but he’s 100% evil. So players good.

Edit: This is a pretty controversial topic.
I guess this really depends on how you want to see the player. I like how the lyrics in Dokuro’s music portrays the player. So I see the player as like the chosen one in a prophecy. The good guy.

Why are people so mad over calamity lore. I think it's pretty fun to piece together what the fuck is happening on your own. Similar to how darksouls is a pretty mediocre and generic story elevated by the fact that you piece it together slowly, and wildly out of order.
