thats absurd. i cant seem to come to give 2500 on something that will be replaced within 2-3 years. imagine what 2500$ really is. i can understand if the 5090 was DOUBLE the performance of 4090. thats a huge generational leap but even then

Just 10 years ago the best cards cost half of what they do now, its insane. Im definetly at the point where it starting to cost to much from a personal value-perspective to upgrade the computer. Can I pull money from savings to comfortable do it? Sure. Do I actually want to? Hell no

with the slow rate games release nowadays it makes absolutely no sense to buy any of these new cards in my book. If you're satisfied with your current card just stay the course, until more games that actually require the specs start dropping at a consistent basis. 2000 to 2500 for a card releasing 2 years after the last one? crazy. Cards have become the new smartphones. All the PC players that had all the energy for the ps5 pro costing 200 more than base ps5 that released 4 years ago, please keep the same energy when it comes to these graphic cards releasing every 2 years.

the thing to remember about the 5080 - it's (rumored) for it to have LESS THAN HALF the CUDA cores, half the VRAM and half the bit bus of the 5090. and they're charging more than half the price.

Nvidia is likely testing the waters with this pricing, SO MAKE HOW ANGRY YOU ARE ABOUT THE PRICING CLEAR ON SOCIAL MEDIA - Nvidia will see it, i'm certain

and that's before we get into scalpers, bulk buying by AI firms, paper launch, etc etc

5090 for $2500 is a good price if you also intend to use it as a heater as well. 600W to run the darn thing is insane.

Part of the reason why prices go up from what I've been told is that TSMC is now charging double for the silicon wafers that these GPUs are made on, from $15K per wafer to $30K.

I work in a company that trains LLMs for external clients, we buy 4090s in the truckload and the clients would pay for the top cards to get any 1% extra of performance.

Amd doesn't care to compete, they can buy the same production capacity from TSMC and sell server cpus for 5x the price.
