As someone who has watched this show, off and on, since season 1; I believe Ryan is making the right decision. Van has always appeared (to me) to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. You know, that person who smiles in your face, cheering you on, while awaiting your demise and, secretly, taking pleasure in your pain. Don’t agree? Watch any episode, during which something happened to or for Ryan (whether good or bad), and pay close attention to Van’s reactions/responses. You know when someone is TRULY FOR YOU.

His business took a huge financial hit having to pay that money. If his business has insurance, he is paying a lot for premiums now. Van ran away, knowing that he wouldn't be technically held at fault, but the business and the business owner. I'd do the same if I was Ryan, I would erase him from my business and personal life.
