Welcome back to another episode of Experts React! In this video, top-notch pilot and friend of Gamology David Gregor watches and reacts to War Thunder. War Thunder is a comprehensive, free-to-play, cross-platform MMO game that's dedicated to aviation, armored vehicles, and naval craft from the early 20th century and through to some of the most advanced combat units available today.
The game offers players a chance to take part in major battles on land, in the air, and at sea!

Check out the episode to get a look at the game through the eyes of a real-world pilot, and find out just how accurate (or not) this game is, how technology has evolved over the years, and what it's like to fly the skies!

War Thunder is based around combined arms battles on air, land, and sea. According to the game's creative director Kirill Yudintsev, it is the only game that encompasses all three of these experiences in one gameplay session.

Vehicles range from pre-World War I naval vessels, from the interwar period and the Spanish Civil War for tanks and aircraft to the Iraq war and beyond, with an emphasis on World War II as well as an emphasis on the Vietnam War and the Cold War.

Players can control aircraft, ground vehicles, and warships from the United States, Germany, Russia, Britain, and Japan, as well as nations with smaller militaries or less prominence in conflicts, such as Italy, France, China, Sweden, and Israel.

Not a single frame of simulator mode which is the most realistic mode WT can offer. And air arcade gameplay, well, thats a gamolohy moment.

Up next: reacting to stat padders, airfield AAA abusers, passive 4-stacks, mid-map AAA, ridiculous ticket bleed, M163s being in propeller aeroplane battles, invisible missiles, BR compression, and the 25 minute timer being too short.

It's great to see him be more comfortable in these videos. His joy and excitement for aircrafts and aircraft combat gets to shine through :)

Should’ve shown him the simulator battles, that’s what war thunder really offers

Just for the record, the archive footage at 1:06 is of Douglas F4D Skyrays, not F-4 Phantom IIs.

Actually, Spitfires have a very high rate of fire. The pilots are taught to only shoot in small bursts coz they will run out of bullets in just 15 seconds if they hold the trigger. Hawker Hurricanes have lower rate of fire so they are able to shoot longer. Can't compete with long range fighters like the DeHavilland Mosquito or the P-38 Lightning though. They have enough bullets to turn a bomber into Swiss Cheese.

One example of the specifics of warheads he refers to in 1:49 is the Expanding Rod Warhead used in the Red Top missiles used by the English Electric Lightning in game. Where a series of metal rods are welded together and packed in around the explosive charge of the missile in a cylindrical manner so that when the warhead detonates the rods fly out forming a Web of metal rods flying at supersonic speeds towards the target that on impact serve to cut the aircraft apart.

It's good to see him more fluid and more relaxed. And just chilling analyzing the video. My biggest problem is. There was only a few planes he talked about.

3:26 Interesting to hear things that has to come out only from someone who actually experienced it.

Also he really loves saying “roller coaster times a thousand/million” doesn’t he? xD

Have him look at footage of simulator battles in war thunder!

They should have shown more air RB fights with ww2 early jets, where there is no lead indicatior and no reload, and you have black outs and wings can break off or tear off depending on what you are doing.

Now we need a masochist to react to German Vehicles players

oh boy i was waiting for this one. also point about the ammo count, some planes may have similar ammo count just with much lower rate of fire compared to modern weapons.

I absolutely love how the first thing mentioned is the sheer use of afterburner. Says a lot about how top-tier is played.

i don't mean to be rude, but what he said related to combat is all old info for experienced warthunder players, could you get him to talk about pilot maneuvers for dogfighting and cas more? possibly something that could be useful to players of the game. also, getting him to play the game would be very cool, I'd like to see how well he fares.

Have him look at Sim battles that's way more realistic he'd probably be only that.

I am interested to hear your comments on purely SIM videos from War Thunder. The sim community is on a complete other level compared to Arcade and Realistic battles. Arcade mode give you a ton of information on screen including a lead indicator to help you shoot down planes within 800 meters. This lead indicator goes away in realistic air battles and the realistic physics is turned up to 11. Sim mode requires a HOTAS setup as well as programming buttons to all of the planes functions/features.

More explanation
air arcade: you have more thrust, your aircraft is more maneuverable, your pilot is less susceptible to g force, you have respawns, you get the friend and foe indicators (red and blue name tags) and there is a lead indicator inside of 800m. Small maps.

air realistic: your aircraft has the exact same stats as in real life mainly thrust and maneuverability, your pilot is more susceptible to g force, there are friend and foe indicators and there is no lead indicator at any range. Mid sized maps.

air simulator: your aircraft has the same stats as irl like in rb, your pilot is the same, there are no friend and foe markers and no lead indicators, you are locked to first person, you are almost forced to use a joystick. Large to Huge maps.

for all: you can make your pilot or defensive gunners more tolerant to g force with crew skill which i guess would be like training and you can make theme tolerate high g’s for longer periods of time, all aircraft with the info that isn’t classified have their exact irl load outs for the most part.
