By popular request, here’s the city of Markarth in Unreal Engine 5 – at a more realistic and lore-accurate scale! Part of an ongoing project to visualise a more realistic and lore accurate scale to Tamriel’s cities – now with sixteen times the detail!

*

*

Rendered out in Unreal Engine 5.3.2 on an RTX 3090. Using a mix of third party models and custom assets modelled in Blender. Nanite was used for all models and foliage; Hardware Lumen for global illumination and reflections.

*

Please NOTE: This is a fanmade cinematic lore visualisation for Skyrim. It is NOT a mod!

Music courtesy of Epidemic Sound.

Soundtrack: ‘Ragnarok’ – Edgar Hopp.

You've singlehandedly destroyed any expectations I had for ES6 and I applaud you for it

If these were somehow combined into a skyrim remake (albeit one that could actually run on my computer😂) that would make my decade fr

My god this looks like a scene from a major film like The Hobbit trilogy. You have some serious talent.

The scale is, naturally, epic! And the fact that you've incorporated regular buildings among the Dwemer architecture just makes it so much more alive - I always felt that those superstitious Nords would need something like that to make them feel at home. Fantastic to see.

If skyrim looked this good when i played it, i might have felt worse about pushing my horse off a cliff.

If Markarth is this big from the outside, I can't imagine how big the underground full of dwemer ruins would be. Maybe something similar to Orzammar and the Deep Roads from Dragon Age.

Honestly, I think Markarth's in-game scale makes the most sense seeing as it's originally a Dwemer settlement and they lived mostly underground. The surface settlement we call Markarth would probably just be a token fortification to trade with and defend against the other races of Nirn. That said, the city looks great. Phenomenal work, as always.

I'd love to see towns from other Elder Scrolls games, even smaller ones like Chorrol or Pelagiad, or those fishing villages along the Bitter Coast like Gnaar Mok. A full scale Suran by the lake Masobi... so many great places to choose from!

Tremendous. Would love to see Windhelm next.

What I love about your videos is that you do not only amp up the scale but also alter the layout of places to better match realistic excpectations of a medieval city, whereas in the games places like Markarth have many logical holes in its design for liveability and defense, this is how it *should* look and indeed more so how real medieval cities were in size and structure. And so breathtaking to boot!

I never imagined Markarth to look this way. Looks absolutely incredible. I only wish there were more assets in line with the Dwemer architecture from Skyrim. Can't wait for Windhelm, if you're doing that next lol. Although you could do Riverwood... a small idea but I think it could look pretty cool. Cheers friend, keep it up. :^)

When I was school in 2010's and always couldn't wait to go home and play Skyrim, this is exactly how I'd imagine those cities

Thank you, you literally brought something from my childhood imagination into reality - those feeling you just enshrined in me, I haven't feel such a good and deep nostalgy, almost cried when I saw those cities that you make - cuz I know that I will never get the same feeling playing modern games, or probably even new Bethesda games, compared to those feeling when you played Skyrim or other TES for the first time...

And this is just what we can see in the surface. Much of the city is under the mountains.

I'm grinning like an idiot on at this. How very cool when you open it up to the full daylight layout. Seeing the big buildings from Skyrim (the keep, the temple, etc) being just little pieces off in the corners is so cool too.

Heck yeah! I am once again requesting Riften! Please keep up the astounding work!

I love this! It reminds me of the old concept art for the city. Fantastic job, as always!

Absolutely gorgeous work! One can only imagine how impregnable Markath would be at this scale, with this topography.

Whenever you release these videos it just breaks my heart because there is no way Bugthesda would ever make something like this on their outdated engine. We need to rip this series from Todd Howard's filthy paws.
