Exploring the grounds of Appomattox where Robert E Lee would surrender to Ulysses S Grant. These actions would end the war for the Army of Northern Virginia and would be one small step towards rebuilding the shattered nation. Several Confederate armies would not surrender for weeks following Lee's surrender. Almost 30,000 soldier would be paroled by the Union Army following Lee's surrender.

That was super cool. One of the pictures is important to my wife. Thomas Caldwell is my wife's 3rd Great Grandfather. That was so super cool. Thanks for sharing that

Those are parole slips, not technically pardons. They were required to sit out of the war until properly exchanged, which of course, never occurred.
