Hollywood PANICS as rising STREAMING prices cause MASSIVE PIRACY!

Major Hollywood studios are panicking as video piracy is once again on the rise, with the industry’s main lobbying organization demanding that Congress take action against piracy sites that are eating into studio profits at an ever-increasing rate.

At CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, the Motion Picture Association (MPA) announced it will redouble its efforts to get lawmakers to crack down on the sites in question by pushing for what it called “judicial site-blocking legislation,” which is intended “to disrupt the connection between digital pirates and their intended audience.”

“This problem isn’t new. But piracy operations have only grown more nimble, more advanced, and more elusive,” MPA head Charles Rivkin said during his address. “These enterprises are engaged in insidious forms of theft, breaking laws each time they steal and share protected content.”

He said digital piracy costs the industry more than $1 billion at the box office in an average year.

Though he didn’t say it, the rise in piracy is coinciding with streaming inflation.

Prices for services like Disney+ and Netflix are skyrocketing as overall inflation spurred by the Biden administration continues to hammer households. Many streamers are also jacking up prices to push more consumers to their less expensive ad-supported options, which feature commercial interruptions and are therefore more profitable.

Modern western shows are not even worth pirating.

Problem with digital content, is that corporations thought people would own nothing & be happy...thats until they learn that they can pay nothing & be happier

Why would anybody want to watch these woke shows? I wouldn't watch them even if they are free

I have no streaming services except for Prime video because I order too much stuff to cancel Prime. I haven't been to a theater in years, and won't be as long as they have the horrible assigned seating in theaters that killed the movie going experience. Hollywood is killing itself and I couldn't begin to care less.

Given the quality of the crap they put out these days, I support the piracy.

As others have said: Hollywood's most successful anti-piracy ploy is making shows and movies no one wants to watch.

Streaming services censor and/or remove content at any given time. That is why people support hard, offline, and content-full copies for ownership.

as the imdb and tomato are clearly manipulated, the real show of interest is how often and massively are they pirated - if you are looking for a watchworthy show, check the stats on what is mostly pirated = mostly liked = mostly watched, the powers to be are pissed that people watch what they like and not what is pushed down our throats

If buying subscriptions isn't ownership, then downloading the content isn't piracy.

The same is happening to video games are well. People are getting really fed up with high prices and garbage entertainment.

Hollywood is lucky that it’s not a high(er) level of apathy.

Why would I give money to companies that have ruined my favorite franchises?

What the hell did they expect?? Exact same thing happened to cable when cable providers got way too greedy as well.

Piracy means your service is garbage. That's why they'll jump through hoops to pirate.

And then there are those of us who won't watch the crap even if it's free.

If paying for it isn't owning it than pirating it isn't stealing it.

Amazed there's that much people actually want to watch.

If they would actually give the people what they actually want and lower the prices, there’d be less piracy!

I used to be someone who did NOT condone piracy but now I fully condone it.

They shouldn’t have tried to compete with Netflix, instead, they should have just leased the licensing rights. Normally lots of different products on the market are a great choice for the customer as it causes prices to remain competitive. The issue here is that the products are of poor quality which forces them to raise prices in order to survive which goes against the free market system.
