I watched a lot of people using gouache and I've bought some Himi to learn, however, I'd like to paint on the 300 gsm kraft brown paper because #1: I've tried it and the gouache works fine on it and the paper does not buckle or melt; and #2 I use this same type of paper for ballpoint pen work, charcoal, pastel, and pencil sketching; #3 I've been told that working with a toned paper can help you learn better shading faster because the paper acts as the mid-tone (which is why I want to use this for gouache), and #4 it cost me $19.00 for 100 (.05 per sheet) sheets of 8.5x11 which, if cut in half gives me two pages to work on, or 4 pages if I'm just practicing, and 5) $$$ is an issue so I tend to save my arches ($2.95 per sheet) for watercolor, and don't use it on something I'm just trying to learn. Anyway, could you make a video on how to use gouache on 300 gsm kraft paper (or any kraft paper)...like recommendations on colors against the brownish surface, what colors will not work or that need extra attention, how to incorporate the brown into the drawing, major difference between toned and not toned... Again, I'm just starting out with gouache, and I find that I like the opaqueness vs watercolor, and I find that I CAN use watercolor on the kraft paper (with less than stellar results if you're going for bright and bold), but I'd prefer to use gouache because it seems more...forgiving, aka ability to correct AND not necessarily worry about losing the white highlights because...white gouache!!! lol... Anyway, if you could provide more info that would be cool.

Thank you very much for posting this. Is it normal to use more white paint (like I do when I paint acrylics) when painting in gouache? Or is gouache meant to be used like watercolour?
