The Penguin did two things that Marvel really could learn from:

It made a spinoff that is completely self contained, not bothering with making connections or shoving fan servicy easter eggs. You can completely enjoy to show without having watched The Batman. At the same time, if they choose to make Penguin the villain in Batman 2, you can pretty much enjoy the movie without having to watch the Penguin show. Also, the show isn’t afraid to let a villain be a villain, something that Marvel is somehow scared of. Every villain has to be somehow “relatable” or somehow “good inside”. Penguin is a piece of shit through and through, and it shows it to you right until the very end. Marvel would’ve have him “grow a heart” or some bullshit and buy that kid an apartment or something.

The JL movie with "They lost their nerve and changed directors" is very misleading. Snyder's daughter died. That's the reason he left the movie and why Whedon came in to finish it.

Stuff like the Penguin is the reason why I like DC over Marvel (as brands anyway). DC actually takes the time to develop their villains, they’re not rip offs of the hero with the exact same powers and gadgets, the good ones aren’t one off villains, but most importantly the villains are people.
