Great advice! I'm glad to hear you emphasized choosing the language based on what it is you intend to do. I am also happy that you didn't recommend JavaScript just automatically - I find that the nuances of JavaScript can make it a bit tricky for beginners, and a more suitable language might be Python, as you recommended.

I’ve just started a software tester bootcamp based on Java and I’m already in tears. 😭 Girl you have mighty brain, greetings from Poland.

Great advice! It depends on you want to focus on (web, backend, mobile, AI, DBs, etc), job options, and even which one you like the most ;-), My first programming language was BASIC, then LOGO, Pascal, C, C++, LISP, Java, JS, Python and a few more, depending on a task at hand ;-). I recently started teaching my 10 years old daughter how to code with Scratch and similar approaches/apps, but ended up writing a new app with a new visual language designed primarly for learning how to code by drag & drop and similar to Java/JS/C ;-)  Plus a coding grid as simple I/O, to narrow the problem space to make learning easier. Well, when you understand the fundamental concepts you can switch to any mainstream language in no time.

I learnt first Assembly in the university. So far, I completely agree with the choice. It will help you learning next language much faster.

A friend I code with a lot for robotics and web app hobby stuff is really good at javascript since he did web design for so long so when I started learning web design I was tempted to try learn JS first and use node and johnny-5 like he's been doing, felt like an interesting way to learn a lot of different purposes in a similar realm. But I think I'm sticking with learning the python and use a bit of php for now. I like bunkering down for the basics of how things are really working but also don't want to work all the way up from C haha I also don't need to go too heavy on learning advanced web design right now since it's not for job hunting. Somehow python just feels like a good intuitive language to learn that will help learn other languages later on. I've been really interested in experimenting with it for data science the last month since it already applies well to the robotics and embedded stuff I'm learning. Still don't know if that makes the best sense for making "fast" progress" but it feels practical and been getting places step by step.

Ok, I'm really dating myself here!
As an elementary school kid, I typed in a lot of simple, number guessing game type programs in to my Atari using BASIC. In high school, I programmed my TI-85 calculator to solve all of my problems. I also picked up VBA working a side job for a company that needed Excel data printed in a report. Then in college I learned C, then C++ for object oriented programming, and one class in assembly. This was on my way to an EE degree with a CS minor. I'd say that background was enough to allow me to use C# and Python today without much trouble.
Great video!

Ah, first languages! I started out on a ZX81 with 1k of memory. I upgraded to 16k which was pure luxury. My first language was Forth. I just loved the idea of using Words. Now I'm retired I am exploring constraint programming in Prolog and Haskell.

Python to me is the best to start off with. Because Assembly & C++ is like learning Calculus 401 before Calculus 101. It's like going into the deep end of the pool instead of the shallow end first. I wish I did Python in the beginning, instead of going nowhere in C++ in the beginning! I look forward to watching/listening to this as always
