European Union leaders wrapped up an emergency summit early Friday, agreeing to impose severe sanctions on Russia targeting its financial, energy and transport sectors.

The Straits Times' US bureau chief Nirmal Ghosh weighs in on whether these protests and tough sanctions will stop Russian President Vladimir Putin from pressing on with Ukraine invasion.
