Got the shakes? How to inspect a warped disc brake rotor. #how2wrench #bentrotor #brakeinspection

In this video, I demonstrate how to inspect and fix warped disc brake rotor. Bonus Tip: Don't forget to check the wheel flange! I show the required “feel”, tools and logic along with the brake rotor replacement on a 2001 Harley Davidson Ultra Classis motorcycle. The procedures are similar for make brands, makes, and models.

Thanks for the video but it think the title is a bit misleading because you did not "fix" the rotor, you "replace"d the rotor. A huge difference bro...

Great video, had to slow down few places but it was worth watching and appreciate those few good tips. My ST1300 brake rotor is totally warped I can see it moving left right, it happened after somebody knocked it down in my parking place, lifted it up and moved it back with front chain jamming between the rotor and wheel. thank you

Hi, can you tell what effects does the rider feel, when the disc is warped?
On my bike, I find the lever pulsating on the mildest of bumps/undulations, if I apply any amount of braking.

That how I fixed mine !!

How do I know/measure wether it's just the rotor or the wheel itself? A wheel that isn't perfectly true could still be within spec, but would it effect the break disc runout? Truing my wheel is way less expensive than new break discs (but not if I have to do both😂)

good video and only thing I would add is to check brake rotor minimum thickness. my yamaha royal star service manual gives that spec along with allowable runout.

Good video. Can you tell me who makes the truing/balancing stand you are using? Thanks.

Another item that should be checked on rotors is thickness variation. Runout like you show in the video is bad, but runout of a few thou (anything under the pad retraction) is less critical than thickness variation. As little as .0005" thickness variation causes braking shudder and will result in braking action ranging from annoying to terrifying---especially on a sportbike. It is a great tip about checking the hub. In working with rotor manufacturers this was always an issue. We could grind perfect rotors with under .0002" TIR and thickness variation and they would get bolted onto .003" TIR wheel hubs with tool bruises on them. This was not a recipe for success.

Hi Shane, very good video. I wanna checkout the runout of my bike rotor. Can you please let me know about the dial indicator you used. Thanks..

Believing that my disc brake rotor might be warped, I've just stumbled across this gem of a video. Could someone on here tell me what that measuring tool is called 👍

I bought a boom off of safety warehouse in California and I have nothing but the shakes with it on the axle is not lined up right is not the right one when I get on it if I feel like it's just going to snap in half it's very dangerous I paid $1, 400 for it I don't know what to do

What I did on my Harley was determine what are of the rotor passes freely through the caliper, mark that area then with either a runout, or dial indicator fix the gauge to the good area then with a large adjustable wrench make slight in or out adjustments to match the good area. Use the area that passes through the caliper freely as a reference as to where you want the rest of the rotor. Hope this makes sense. After all the end result we want is not to rub through the caliper.

hi Shane Conley What is the type or the rough made by the disc brake rotor

The point is, you do NOT repair motorcycle rotors. You replace them. But YOLO it's your life.
