You summed up the mountain bike industry perfectly, which basically boils down to this, this years bike has more travel and is slacker, so that makes it better than last years bike, and that makes your current bikes geometry outdated, which is bad because your bike won't be able to handle the tracks you've been riding anymore so you better upgrade, oh and the new bike costs $800 more than the previous generation bike, so start saving, oh and one more thing, the trail bike you brought a few years ago because you wanted a trail bike has now effectively become an enduro bike, so if you want to stay on a trail bike then you better buy our new cross country bike, which is basically the same as your old trail bike.

Bikes are very expensive nowadays!! I wouldn't be looking at a new bike unless my old bike had critically failed. However, if you look in the second hand market for people selling bikes (from having tried cycling or upgrading since 2020) I think you might be able to find some amazing deals.

Also, I have 1 bike. A Ti gravel bike from 2018 (the frame I bought 2 years ago to upgrade my first gravel aluminum bike) which works in all situations I want to ride. No N+1 for me!

This is great, many people get caught in the hype but the best bike you can have is the one you are using rn counting in many km. I

Got my aluminium winter road bike, got my carbon aero fancy pants road bike and got my hard tail aluminium mountain bike. No need for another at all unless one dies.

Road bikes are actually getting worse due to proprietary integrated cockpits. Supposedly aero, they are in fact less aero, since they do not allow optimisation of rider position.

I got myself a new bike this year. A folding bike, which actually can go places where my other bike cannot go. On the other hand my older bike still brings me a lot of joy on the pure bike trips I do with it.

I always thought I wanted to buy upgrades or get a new bike until I’m actually on the road and realize that my current bike (Orbea Orca OMR M30) rides as brilliant as it is.
Only changes I made out of the box were those to make it fit me better like pedals, bars and seatpost.

Definitely take the bike to an excellent LBS. I love the feeling of riding away from my local workshop with a freshly fully serviced bike feeling like new again 😊

In 2018 I bought a Vitus Energie for 1300€. It had hydraulic brakes, 11 speed rival and weighed under 9kg since it came with a triple butted aluminium frame. Try to find that for under 2.5k today!

Whew. Glad I saw your video today. Already ordered a new Cannondale Topstone to accompany my Hi-mod Evo. I doubt you would have changed my mind, but good try.

On the serious side, good points. I do know of a few guys that are bike laden.

I just rode a 2023 29" Canyon Lux back to back with my 2013 26" Devinci Dexter. Convinced me I didnt need a new bike. Road bike the same. My riding partner is equal fitness and I dont really struggle keeping up with his 12 speed Canyon on my 8 speed 20 year old aluminum bike.

What was that white road bike without markings at the beginning? Looks so nice!

I'm just wishing reason #2 would resonate to majority of people who'll buy a new bike. We need to bring the demand down to enjoy lower prices. 😆

Over the course of my 40 year+ riding career, I have purchased quite a few bikes, earlier on for speed (didn’t help—too slow)more recently for smiles per hour. Now at 65+, I cannot justify the prices of new bikes. Fair play for those who can, but the only bikes in my future will have 10 speeds or less and rim brakes. Can’t see me buying carbon wheels unless someone is trying to get rid of clincher setup. I guess I’ve become a retro grouch, but I also guess I’m proud of it!

Sadly i got into an accident 2 months ago and the price to repair my gravel bike is more than to buy new, so im looking at either the stevens gavere/prestige or the focus atlas bikes to replace my old one
