Wow, love the way you just dropped the whole building to get that top tape in place. Makes it much easier!

"Checking square not plumb" is so the window will open and close smoothly, and repel water at the slides and seals properly.
If you try to plumb it to the building it will bind and not be a square window. 😃

I like to dry fit the window, mask off the outside flange of the window with painters tape, remove the window, then wet flash the rough opening to ensure the sheathing does not rot if water gets behind the window or zip tape. Then apply a bead of adhesive to top and two sides, set the window, nail flange, and flash with zip tape.

The zip tape has a non-stick surface on top so it can come off the roll. When it overlaps, it should be wiped with acetone to remove this coating, or else it doesn't stick there. A future point of separation and possible leak area at the corners.

Center it in the hole, level the bottom and nail it and square the window with the tape measure. Always did it that way also.

8P for trim! Stronger than the alternative and the heads paint up beautifully, no need for fill. Just my opinion, I know there’s a hundred ways to skin a cat.

Your installation is better than the air sealing ability of that sliding window. I believe a casement window of similar quality is tighter than sliding or double hung windows, wouldn't you agree? Great videos, love your work!

“Make sure that metal goes on.”
I’d add “... so that it slopes down *away* from the wall.”
This can mean opening one or both of the bends in the Z metal beforehand.
Otherwise, water will just sit on the horizontal leg and all roll off the ends - probably behind any sealant applied between window frame and siding. The window may not leak and the sheathing will probably be OK. But the siding will not.

Finally someone that knows how to install a window properly

Check for level, then check for square. That’s correct.
If the window frame is flexible you check for square.... the bottom is already level, so squareness is much more accurate since the panes are square.

You guys and Jorge Lopez are the best framers on youtube i swear.

Makes sense to check square over plum cuz if it's square the window slides and shuts evenly and can be out of plum, but if it's plumb and not square the slide will jam. It wouldn't matter with a solid window.

Interesting watching how other places build homes. I’m in the Pacific NW so we head flash the window and then head flash the frame as well. And we avoid OSB like the plague.

Tim, Would like to see more details about assembling your trim with corrugated fastners. Especially which gun you use and the size of fasteners. Very limited information out on the Internet about these tools. Thanks.

Looks pretty good, but I hope you shimmed the sill… would be a shame to do all that great work and set the window down directly on the sill.
