I think everyone doesn't know how much Melissa actually cares for the girls. Yes she has some troubles in the past but this video is a perfect example of her taking guardianship over Kalani for *months*

Melissa just wanted Maddie to make it, she knew her child was a star and Abby noticed her, she was willing to do anything for her to get there and I think that’s why she didn’t get along with the moms in the the earlier seasons. But you can tell how much a genuine caring person she is and how much she cared for the girls. She’s literally taking another child under her wing, she used to cry when Paige and Nia messed up and they would got upset on stage she really did care. And when they’d succeed she was always so happy for them.
