So many content creators on the internet suggest Citristrip so I tried it. It’s worthless! It doesn’t work and really messed up my project! Now I get the old fashioned favorite that costs about 1/3 of the Citristrip !

Hi everyone! What’s the best tool/ easiest way to remove all of the paint from the spindles, cap and base. There are some weird angles of the railing where my bate/ paint scrapper can’t scrape.

It is a giant nightmare. Doing it right now. Thankfully I am in no rush to do it. I can work on it 1-2 hours a week and hopefully just get it done in a year :D

She is spot on. You will have to use at least 3 methods on flat/round pieces, and on vertical and horizontal surfaces. I used the 3 methods mentioned here, plus an infrared paint remover. Don’t do it is an understatement 😊

Citristrip is OK. It takes time. I’m hesitant to use the stronger removers because of the fumes.

There was about 8 coats of paint on my staircase, so o used a heat gun at 550C, then sanded. It took over a week to complete, but was worth the effort. 😂

Ive spray painted my car almost 3 times now, and ive gone from only hands. To a battery powered 1 speed da sander, to a corded sander and more features, more bodywork practice, all my primers have been done through rattlecan, painted the car with a roller and house paint, and now im ready for a paint gun, compressor, and real automotive paint.


But shooot, id be lying if i said that first time a mirror cap, headlight cover, or body panel came out glossy and perfect i wasnt extremely excited and proud of being able to do it.


Good work, just keep doing stuff. Because maybe even if yours isnt perfect you now have knowledge to help others doin the same.

Jasco is the best. But definitely have a fan pulling air in an 1 pulling air out of the areas your working.

Been there, done that! Almost always need to use a variety of methods. I would have started with sanding here....

I had a heat device that worked well but I used other stuff too

I would absolutely not take on that project. Good for you for committing, great job. I would unhappy with the amount of work that took.

You need to cover the citrus stripper otherwise it dries and its a nightmare to take off

I’m stripping paint off the trim in my mud room. Not fun at all but the end product looks amazing!

Have to be careful with heat gun because it can burn the wood. And don’t stupidly put your hand on the heated part, not thinking. Don’t ask me how I know.

How did you ventilate/protect yourself in the house? I’ve been working on stripping my bedroom doors and it’s worked well - but that’s outside.

I’m scared to do the indoor trim and walls because of the fumes and toxcicty
