About 1.5 years ago we did 3, 700 sqft of wall paper removal. Some places was 3-4 layers. About 25 buckets of mud later it came out pretty good lol.

Much worse after removing paneling...
not only torn paper (low) but there was still glue that couldn’t be totally removed (high)... would have been much easier to re sheetrock but I was curious about skim coating... came out great. Did the prime /roll-on / skim off 3 coats / sand / prime... wish your videos were around then.
Also the house is from early 50s... Im pretty sure most rooms were wallpapered from the start... (drywall, tape, wall paper... no second / third coats) then over the years painted over a bunch then paneled...

We have a bit of a nightmare. Removing wall paper in a 1970's house ending up with damaged plaster board an patches of filler where the walls been repaired. Need to get this sorted before plasterers arrive.

Great information, that actually happened to me in my son's room. I got frustrated and ripped the wall down and installed sheetrock.

We bought a fixer upper of a cottage style house that was covered in wallpaper. Most of the wallpaper removed beautifully EXCEPT one bedroom. That wallpaper destroyed the drywall paper. I followed your steps that you’ve outlined from a previous video and the walls turned out great!

There’s many methods of wallpaper removal as this video indicated it depends on how the wall was prepped before the wallpaper was installed. I had the same problem in my kitchen the wallpaper refused to release with traditional methods. So I had some very sticky packaging tape I applied with a plastic trowel working all air out so the tape had maximum adhesion to the wallpaper over a seam or edge. I pulled the tape removing the top of the wallpaper with the design leaving the brown backing and glue which was easily removed with a spray bottle of water and a putty knife Leaving no damage to the sheet rock.

Use laundry detergent in a garden sprayer. Spray the wall, let it set in and scrape off. Comes off easy

The house I grew up in Long Beach had wallpaper everywhere in every room! Mine had yellow flowers which I covered with posters when I was a teen, one whole wall was dedicated to Guns N Roses.
I bet they had a heck of a time getting it all off! Great job with getting it back to normal! Going to go check that video out now!

I got very lucky with my wallpaper situation. The wall underneath was painted with some kind of waterproofing coat so its the perfect texture for getting rid of the excess glue.

Try Oil based zinnser or kill it’s cheaper than Garda and seals and locks it down plus the oil base repels the water that’s in the mud

Good job skimcoating. I've had to deal with this same issue multiple times

I'm just curious, the previous owner never primed the sheetrock before putting on the adhesive, they just laid the glue right on the raw skin

Anyone having this issue a little prep goes along way. Spray the wall paper with toilet bowl cleaner in a windex bottle. You will definitely need a respirator. But it peels right off and no residue is left behind.

Do you have to skim coat the wall before painting it

I could use you at my house. All plaster walls. And I suck and any wall or ceiling repair. Great work!

Paul, I used Pro Romans 999 rx35 for my first nightmare project and it worked great. Next room, I thought I had this all figured out BUT, even after sealing everything off with Romans I have gotten so many places of rippling. I don't get it. I used fabric softer at times and vinegar at times and a steamer when removing the wallpaper. TOOK FOREVER!!! (I wonder if the contractors who built this house didn't apply something correctly or something) I allowed 2 days of dry time in great weather before a quick sand and sealing off. I noticed ripples with Romans 999 rx35 on a spot when I rolled it on??? I cut around the spots and pulled up what was there and retried. Is Romans not as good as Gardz? Why did it not ripple on my first project and then on the second? Now after a skim coat over patches I am getting random rippling again. SO Frustrated.
