Hiromi - Voice - The Trio Project Featuring Anthony Jackson & Simon Phillips

Pianist and composer Hiromi Uehara, whose passionate and incendiary keyboard work has been a shining light on the jazz landscape since her 2003 debut, believes that the voice that never speaks can sometimes be the most powerful of all.

Her newest release, a nine-song trio recording simply titled Voice, expresses a range of human emotions without the aid of a single lyric.

"When I play music, I realize that it really filters emotions," says Hiromi. "I called this album Voice because I believe that people's real voices are expressed in their emotions. It's not something that you really say. It's more something that you have in your heart. Maybe it's something you haven't said yet. Maybe you're never going to say it. But it's your true voice. Instrumental music is very similar. We don't have any words or any lyrics to go with it. It's the true voice that we don't really put into words, but we feel it when it's real."

Hiromi Uehara is a rare talent! I believe this Jazz trio is one of the best ever assembled.

I saw this band live, and was knocked out. She is one of the most important sources of musical inspiration on the scene today; in any genre.

She is simply the best around! Having seen her live 4 times I can say that her playing is astounding and she simply moves you to places you never thought you would go to while listening to her. This trio will be incredible! Blue Note here I come (again!).

Hiromi was the first, and only ever, a musician that could fulfill my musical desire 100% when I listened to her. Thank you for being on earth!

similar thing happened to me... someone sent me a youtube link, I was blown away, looked her up, and found she was playing at Yoshi's in Oakland 3 days later... including a Sunday afternoon for $15... ARE YOU KIDDING? F*K YEAH we're going...

Couldn't believe my eyes/ears... Simon Phillips alone was worth the price, but Hiromi's playing and spirit were just spectacular...

April 4 thru 7, 2013 ... SF Jazz Center... got my tix already...

Just saw all three of them together at the Blue Note last night. It was mindblowing. If you are in NYC, they are there until the end of the week, don't miss it!

She's amazing! I got hooked on her music about 3 years ago. Now I can't stop listening to her. She's a breath of fresh air to not only the world of music, but also to Jazz.

saw this trio live in SF a few weeks back. THREE GENIUS MUSICIANS... no words capture what I saw that evening... Simon Phillips, by himself, it's like watching a magic trick; how can one guy play like that? Anthony Jackson, one of the greatest, says that Hiromi is one of THE GREATEST artists to ever sit behind the piano... he would know... and she NEVER LETS UP! amazing phrase after phrase, this might have been the highest level of playing I've ever seen... GO SEE THEM LIVE!

Just saw her live at the Jazzfest for the 1st time and she was w/ this band. DEAR LORD! It literally brought me to tears. Hiromi is a FORCE, and this band (and Simon's rock influence) really brings out her boundless energy. If you see her live, it's an experience unlike any other.
