What an awesome series! Thanks Tom. I certainly hope you also teach students at schools. You are a superb educator. I will be sharing your series with my children and others.

Thank you for your message! Sorry for this delayed reply, YouTube did not notify me of it :(

But in answer to your question: yes, the examples in this video are all different types of glial cells or 'glia'.

@GabAtan Also note though that in the PNS there are more glial cells than just Schwann cells, there are also satellite cells (similar to astrocytes) and enteric glial cells.

@berarpaul No worries; I'm glad you found it useful.

@GabAtan The short answer is we don't know. And in fact it is still up for debate if the CNS ratio of glia:neurons is 9:1 (some argue it is much closer to 1:1 or that in some parts of the brain neurons actually outnumber glia)! But for moment it is generally accepted that glial cells outnumber neurons overall.

Why is this so much more interesting when it is delivered in an Aussie accent?

@ejdotw P.S. I am currently doing some volunteer tutoring at a local high school - and very much enjoying it too! Thanks again!

Hi Tom, I wanted to ask if the examples (Dendroytes, astrocytes..e.g.) you've given are examples of Gilal cells? I'm sure they are but could you just confirm please! Thanks...p.s. your teaching is

@EzzieNet LOL; yes, I am sorry about that! My dictionary says 'uh-pen-duh-mul' but I still get it wrong!

It is 2014 now. Is the research on the function relationship to the neuron complete now? I am reading a textbook that describes the commonalities. Just wondering if it is accurate.

Damn it! I literally watched this only to work out how to pronounce 'ependymal'.
