Dual system recording is a standard in film; naturally not typical for YT, yet you just described excellent reasons why it can be. Great tips. (P.S. Glad to see you tried out the OSMO Action 3 again. Enjoying your channel.)

That's what I like about your videos, so practical and in depth, not some unboxing or paid reviews.

Great tips. I want to get the DJI mic set up for my Action 2 and soon I hope to get the Action 3. That way I have an easy audio set up for both cameras that has the best features.

Glad you were able to salvage the audio. For things like this, I setup a tascam recorder just out of frame as a backup.

I always struggle with getting the audio recorded well when I'm out in the field, or anywhere but my office. So this video was very helpful to me. I have the DJI Mic and it has helped my work flow, but I recently had a session where I lost the audit recorded back to camera and the onboard recording on the mic. I blame myself, and not the equipment. Great video, and thanks for sharing.

As always, great tips. As I have stated in the past on your channel, I only use the GoPro media mod. It works well. But one thing that I learned and still occasionally forget is the mic setting. I recently drove an hour plus to ride some mountain bike trails for the first time. I had my GoPro on my dash of my vehicle recording ahead of me while I drove through the worlds longest covered bridge. The mic was set to the back mic of the media mod. I got the trail head and was getting ready for my ride when a few cars arrived and they looked rather sketchy. I had a bunch of gear with me so I was trying to get it all out of my car into my back pack. Well I was a bit flustered and forgot to change the mic to front and the audio was sub par for the trail ride. I ended up adding my own subtitles to the entire video. I hope I have finally learned my lesson. Side note: I still have the DJI mic kit in my Amazon cart. Still trying to decide if it is worth it for me ($500+ Canadian).

I'm just starting to use an external mic...still a long ways away from one that can record. Great info and thanks for sharing!

Nice job as always. I would not have thought about the shotgun mic issue indoors. I mainly shoot outside but when filing/ shooting a rare indoor shot I will change things up as you suggested. Cheers!
