Yeah this happened to me in college. Rented a room because their child was studying a road for the semester, and after they refused to give me my security deposit back, was only $200 so it didn’t really matter to me. But I hope the $200 can last him the rest of his life because he was a cop and instead of paying court fees and all that mess I just decided to report him to his police force and he got fired😂

I dated a girl who rented a house for a year and the landlord tried to keep her 1, 200 dollar deposit because "she didn't weed and prune her front yard or tend to the plants outside". Ummm, I'm pretty sure general maintenance and lawn care is the landlord's job, and there was nothing in the agreement mentioning that. I was fuming, but at least her dad yelled at the lady until she gave the money back.

Here in NZ. Tennancy bonds are held by a government organization. They are paid out directly to the tennants and landlord if a portion is to cover damages.
