Tesla FSD vs Mercedes Driver Assist! Is Mercedes really better?

Putting Tesla FSD head to head against Mercedes Driver Assist on the same road! I have videos of both driving on the same road side by side along with the number of interventions so you can see how they perform against each other.

Clearly the better system at keeping the driver engaged...

Obviously Merc is miles better here. Look at how engaged Omar was with trying not to crash. 10/10.

The mercedes system is basically a highway assistant, while the tesla feels like real autonomy

🤣 After the 10th intervention, I was like, alright bro, we get it, you don’t have to keep risking your life. You made your point a while ago! 😂

That's so embarrassing, NHTSA are a joke and as for Consumer Reports words fail me 😂😂😂

You should make this video public I don't think another vid has shown in black and white just how far ahead Tesla is and I think as many people as possible need to see this

Oh my god! The Mercedes CANNOT even keep itself in the lane! That is not "worse". It is basically an incomplete software!! Truly amazing video and it should have more exposures!

“ we had to take over every turn and we’re not even going very fast” that would make for a great Mercedes tagline

I don’t understand. The Mercedes system must be very safe or Dan O’Dowd would have spent millions trying to shut it down. Clearly the Tesla system is very dangerous because the driver could become bored!

Great video. I hope this reaches a huge audience.

The proof is in the drive. Tesla is the winner and Mercedes isn't even on the map and NHTSA shouldn't even allow it to be on the road.

Just want to point out (this was pointed out to me) that this Mercedes EQS is *not* equipped with the Level 3 autonomy system. Mercedes vehicles with that system have two dedicated buttons on the upper half of the steering wheel from where the system is activated. On this video there are no such buttons and the autonomous system is activated via central hub of the wheel. This means this system on Mercedes is more comparable to non-FSD autopilot, not to FSD.

That being said, my 5+ years old Model 3 with AP2.5 hardware and old software stack does MUCH better job driving autonomously than this Mercedes. I would be extremely intrigued to see a one more drive with the Mercedes Level 3 system on this very same drive.

I love how all the Mercedes heads are bragging that Mercedes was the first to have a "level 3" system. That is so laughable. And the best part is the media is pushing this garbage. They are simply and blatantly just hating on Tesla and Elon

Mercedes-Benz Drive Assist (Distronic): in this video
- Functionality: Drive Assist is a hands-on system that provides excellent lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control.
- Autonomy Level: It operates at Level 2, which means the driver must keep their hands on the wheel and remain ready to take control instantly.
- Coverage: Drive Assist works on freeways, but only on those that are mapped and approved.
- Annual Cost: There is no additional annual cost for Drive Assist.

Mercedes-Benz Drive Pilot: this is what should be compared to Tesla FSD
- Functionality: Drive Pilot offers a taste of autonomous driving, but with limited functionality.
- Autonomy Level: It falls somewhere between Level 2 and Level 3. While it allows hands-free driving, the driver must still be able to take over when requested.
- Coverage: Drive Pilot is currently legally allowed only in California and Nevada.
- Annual Cost: Drive Pilot comes with a high annual cost of $2, 500

Hang on a second. I think this consumer report compared Tesla's 'Auto Pilot' with Mercedes's 'Driver Assistance'...not with FSD. Mind you, Tesla's Auto Pilot and FSD are different thing. If this is the case, the consumer report should also make a comparison between Mercedes's 'Driver Assistance - Level whatever' and Tesla's FSD. Then it's a fair fight.

And this is not even city driving where Tesla would completely destroy Mercedes.

You'll never see mainstream media show this type of video! For those in the know we already knew Tesla FSD was miles ahead of anyone else, but if you listen to what MSM reports you would think it is absolutely horrible!

It's evident that Tesla completely blew this comparison out of the gate.

Few things to note: 1) Tesla had 0 interventions 2) Tesla has the ability to perform both right and left turns (protected and unprotected) 3) Tesla was able to navigate itself without any lane markings required. 4) Tesla has the ability to stop at traffic light, stop at stop signs (including properly yielding to prior vehicles stopped at stop signs) 5) Tesla has the ability to anticipate pedestrian intention 6) OH! and did I mention, Tesla processes this all now via Neural Net.

Now, the question is.... How on Earth did Mercedes a) get approval to call their systems a Level 3 (L3) and b) which agency allowed Mercedes to advertise this?

All these other companies, including BlueCruise, are claiming "HandsFree" driving whereas in the real-world Tesla's system is an order of magnitude more advanced than any competitor.

Also, thank you for your post, editing, and your dad's input.

Edit: I understand that Mercedes had once stated that the L3 is only applicable when on highway and 40km/h or slower. However, as the dad stated, the way they’re advertising this to customers makes customers and media believe Mercedes vehicles are fully autonomous.

I love how the FSD video kept waiting for the faulty Merc software to catch up LOL

Consumer Reports was rating Autopilot, not FSD, correct?
