Coldest Place In Universe Found So Far

You’re looking at the coldest place ever found in the universe. It’s the Boomerang Nebula, a young planetary nebula located 5,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Centaurus. The temperature here is -272.15°C or -457.87°F. That’s just one kelvin above absolute zero, the temperature at which all atomic motion stops. Furthermore, this region is even colder than the cosmic microwave background radiation, which is the leftover heat from the Big Bang. The Boomerang Nebula gets its name from its distinctive shape, which resembles a boomerang. The nebula, spanning 10 light years, is formed by the outflow of gas from a dying star. As the gas expands, it cools down. The nebula is so cold because it is expanding very rapidly at a rate of around 160,000 km/hr. Astronomers believe it will continue to cool down for the next few thousand years.

"The boomerang gets it's name from it's distinctive boomerang shape" ahh, yeah. All my boomerangs look like hour glasses as well!

I liked the part where it looks like a boomerang

The coolest thing in your videos is that i learn as much about the Universe as about English vocabulary, which is TOP 👌👍

Awesome good place to make a futuristic lab for something in the far future.

Pretty sure Wolfgang Ketterly beat that lowest temp in his ultra cold atoms lab at MIT and think he won a Nobel prize for it?

Absolutely fascinating, thanks. I watched it 4 times

That's not a boomerang, that's an AMOGUS

I never understand how they can tell temperatures so far away BUT can't tell the exact temp here on Earth

Something tells me this place is older than we think. Heat dies off eventually, which would most likely make this place extremely old, much older than we give it credit for. The cmbg is also only theoretically leftover heat from the Big Bang, as that hasn’t been scientifically proven.

The Boomerang nebula is only the coldest place found, not the coldest place. It is the coldest location in the universe (that we know of) most of the time, however the real coldest place in the universe is in a lab on Earth. However that's only when it's running the appropriate experiment. I believe the current record is only trillionths of a degree away from absolute zero. A different lab has achieved many times hotter than anything seen in the universe. 4 trillion degrees Celsius. For reference, the hottest temp the universe is known to output is supernovas at around 1 million Celsius.

As much as people like to say humans are insignificant in the universe, humans have created colder and hotter than anything the universe has shown us.

It makes sense. The explosion from the super nova is pushing everything away from its center at blazing speeds. That includes radiation and heated particles causing the space in the aftermath to rapidly cool.

The coldest known place in the Universe is actually in Labs on Planet Earth where they've achieved temperatures billionths of a degree above Absolute Zero.
