This is quite an important topic, which is often undermined.
People just expect you to change without looking into what is it that withholds change
Thanks for this...

Some recovery centers that focus on harder drugs, at least where I live, let the addicts have smoke breaks, like cigarettes are not part of the problem. I was going into a treatment center once for depression and decided not to, because I am extremely sensitive to 2nd hand smoke. I do live in the tobacco state of NC.

I think a KEY to motivation IS ORGANIZATION.
When all parts of your life are organized: finance, auto, bike, health, lifelong learning, investing, entertainment, hobbies & interests... THEN we can free up mental energy to see what the motivation is CLEARLY, and relax to enjoy life sunrise to sunset...
But then how to avoid becoming OCD for organization?

Do you think making it more unpleasant for people to smoke is motivation or trampling on free will? For example, I have severe depression I'm bipolar. So there are times I just don't leave my bed. My at the time then boyfriends father who we lived with, would walk around saying really mean things about me to my boyfriend causing us to fight, and his reasoning was if it was unpleasant for me to be depressed and stay in my room then I would suddenly stop. Or if my boyfriend didn't go to work his dad would be extremely confrontational toward him all day, nobody was allowed to be happy or have a good day, and again his reasoning was because if he made it unpleasant then my boyfriend would never take a day off of work again. In my opinion the healthy thing would be to talk to his son about how he feels about him taking the day off. I feel the other way was manipulative and toxic, is my thinking on this wrong? Is it OK to be purposely unkind to other people in order to motivate them? Truly asking incase my thinking is what was wrong I'd like to know for future instance so I can fix it. If you're able to answer that it, thank you so much for this video. They are all so helpful.

8:55 IPV) Intimate Partner Violence. How's often do you see this play into "using" and motivation of your clients? By getting the patient healthier. This might cause their abuser to tighten their grip by implementing new intimate partner violence strategies to the person you are helping get better. Thanks in advance :-)
